Discussion: 9 Senators To Watch In GOP's Do-Or-Die Obamacare Repeal Crunch

Trump and Price have promised everyone will be covered at lower cost than Obamacare. Will we hold Trump and Price accountable for their promises?

Price doesn’t give a fuck what he may or may not have promised. He’s full of shit.

And what Trump believes or not just doesn’t matter.

Trump’s beliefs might matter if he held them longer than one day in a row.

So to get to 50 votes, they need 6 out of these 9 and cannot lose a single Senator not mentioned. Additionally, it must be a bill that pleases a majority of the GOP House members, where if even two House members defect, they won’t get to 216 votes. Hmmm…I say they won’t get there.

But first, they need to pass an infrastructure bill. Perfectly logical, I’m sure.

Big meeting today on health care and tax cuts, says Trump.
Maybe another signing ceremony?

Which ones are we looking for to break ranks again? I kinda lost track.

Toomey and Portman were just re elected so they don’t need to curry favor with Rump. Not to mention, Rump has no political capital to exert. Capito is also a no go regardless of what he wants.

Four years since Robert Frank in the NYT stated the obvious:

The truth appears closer to the reverse: Because of pervasive market failures in private health care markets, this may be the sector that benefits most from collective action.

@brooklyndweller Point(s) taken, but the R’s have an uncanny ability to extract party loyalty when the votes are counted. Soooo, we’ll see.

Don’t be fooled. Every one of those 9 jokers is on board with shifting trillions in wealth to the rich. They will find a way to come together with the rest of their party to wrest healthcare away from 30% of our citizens.

I’m thinking we might want to keep an eye on BOTH Senators from W.V. If they drop some of the draconian medicaid cuts in the House bill, they’ll surely bank Capito and Manchin could cave.

The train has left the station. Repealing Obamacare is as dead as Prohibition. Every day, more Americans realize that a terrible idea–if you can call it that–the Republican “plan” is. And every day, Republican senators edge a little further away.

Time to shit or get off the pot and admit they are full of shit and constipated.

Moderate. Republicans. Always. Cave.

Since republicans have no real sense of country, I could easily see provisions that would protect the residents of every state with a republican senator who is willing to make that the price of their vote. The only risk then it that it might not get past the Murder Caucus in the house, but I think they’re pragmatic in the end too.

The Rethugs can’t really extract Party loyalty if they don’t have much in the way of leverage. Either on a State, Federal or a general Party level - there has to be some kind of “stick” that the Party apparatus can use against an individual Senator. That’s the nature of politics.

TPM–

What’s with the hyperbole? This isn’t do-or-die for GOP senators.

Excellent points. The only outcome that would justify watching any of the poseurs slated to perform this particular kabuki skit is that where a bill passes both houses. If the Senators become convinced that there is no cost to them in passing something (as happened in the House) they’ll do it. At that point it might be time to worry. But by that time the gathering Russian storm might cripple the administration so badly everything will be shelved.
But as of now…meh.
The article is clickbait. Happens more often with “5 points” than with other TPM articles, IMO.

Yes, and also hold where’/s Bernie Maddoff’s 10% return that he promised me.

That pretty much sums it up.
