I posted this late on yest. MM, but at the very least we might be in a repeat of TSF’s first term. One short sprint of him trying to pretend to do governance, followed by the entirety of the rest of the term being solely about him and his scandals consuming his presidency. (hopefully along with serious health problems)
This news is so important that the NYTimes ran with it.
A House Ethics Committee has found that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez underpaid to rent the “Tax the Rich” dress at the 2021 Met Gala. Four years after the fact, the panel determined Friday that the $1,000 the progressive congresswoman paid to rent the outfit wasn’t a fair rate and that she must hand over an additional $2,733.28 to designer Aurora Janes. The finding stems from ethics rules governing the acceptance of gifts by elected representatives, which cover “a gratuity, favor, discount, entertainment, hospitality, loan, forbearance or other item having monetary value.” While the committee concluded Ocasio-Cortez had been mindful of those regulations and that her aides made efforts to explain the rules to the designers, it found Janes “may have lowered costs” nonetheless. Given the buyer’s price for the dress stood at $18,837.30, the committee estimated the rental cost, combined with other fees, should have been $3,724.04, and therefore said “it would be appropriate” for Ocasio-Cortez to pay the additional fees.
Oh, sure. And the remaining minority of Republicans will successfully use every trick, every parliamentary maneuver, every rotten move, every violation of ethics, decency, and law, to block ALL their efforts.
Won’t matter how fired up Democrats are … which they haven’t been, within my memory, and I’ve been around since the Eisenhower administration. They. Will. Be. Blocked.
And they will NOT use the unconstitutional “powers” exerted by the Current Felon. First, Republicans won’t let them. Second, the news media won’t let them.
So “Democractic rule” will have a brief shelf life because, hey! We elected them and they did nothing.
Yesterday by accident I caught a few minutes of NBC’s news feed (not MSNBC, but the network’s broadcast channel) and the vapid anchors all were slobbering about losing Hulk Hogan calling him a true American hero. Jesus effing Christ on a celery stick. It was the perfect embodiment of how the major networks have moved on from objective reality to toxic propaganda and how deeply they have damaged our democracy.
Also, aren’t there a thousand FBI agents who know what’s in those files about Trump and who could whistleblow at any time if they felt justice was being perverted? Of course, everything depends upon the context of what’s in those files.
