The Department of Homeland Security, long relegated to pursuing phantoms of antifa and going after Islamic radicals under the Trump administration, took a significant step this week towards reorienting itself against the fight with domestic terrorism.
Absolutely the right call, but politically risky. Imagine any radicalized person with an Arabic-sounding name does something untoward; the neo-confederates will howl for the remainder of Bidenâs single term.
I would rather they split the difference. Iâm not sure how to quantify âsubstantial resourcesâ - since weâve invested nothing in domestic terrorism investigation, what constitutes âsubstantialâ - 10%, 25% 60% of the resources?
And also, can we not walk and chew gum at the same time and pursue both with equal vigor? Are we as a nation that inept that we canât have two things going on at the same time?
This is excellent news. I fully expect the GOP to actively cheer for a foreign-born terror attack, meanwhile much of their voter base is now in more danger of being apprehended before they can kill people.
Considering that the Proud Boys, 3%'ers and Oath Keepers are auxiliary arms of various city and state police agencies, I hope the Feds arenât counting on much help from the locals.
âThey want to make sure the funds are being distributed proportionate to the threat posed by terrorist organizations, not by any sort of racial or ethnic community,â Greer said.
This should have been done back in 2009 (?) when the DHS reported that right wing extremism was a greater threat then foreign extremism. And we all know what happened next â Goopers lost their collective $&*# and Janet Napolitano was forced to backtrack.
They are going to howl no matter what Biden does or does not do. The Biden Admin seems to have decided to ignore the RW attack machine and get stuff done. What a novel concept and it is working.
