Why Betsy DeVos quit…
DeVos said that she took out paper and pencil to figure out “just how many weeks twelve days really is. It was basic geometry.”
Once she realized that twelve days was the same as three weeks, “I decided I couldn’t stay that long.”
As she packed up her office, she said that she was proud of her tenure as Secretary of Education. “I started in 2017, and now it’s 2021,” she said. “It’s been a great six years.”

The same thing happened with Watergate. Republicans stuck with an obviously guilty Nixon until the last minute, until that Oval Office tape was released for all to hear and and that point their lies could no longer be plausibly made to even the most receptive audience. It was their off ramp, a means of white washing their complicity -and it worked. How many times have you recently heard of the “Brave Republicans” who told Nixon he had to go? Well, that only came in the last 48 hours of Nixon’s presidency. They too were just mangy rats jumping ship.

Aside from the fact that this might be one of the longest sentences I have ever seen published on TPM… I note that she waited till Thursday to post her resignation… The truly honorable thing to do would have been to post it before Wednesday… Do you think she was waiting to see if the coup was successful first?
