Education Secretary Betsy DeVos became the second cabinet member to submit her resignation in a letter to President Donald Trump on Thursday night, joining a wave of Trump officials who have opted to jump ship after Trump incited his supporters to descend on the Capitol in what became a violent mob effort to overturn the results of the presidential election.
Yeah right, she resigned out of moral outrage. Uhuh. More like to protect her image and dissociate herself from a man no longer politically convenient to be associated with. Also, most likely, so she wouldn’t have to vote on the 25th, if Pence goes there. Which he would have by now, if he was going to. Trump could literally shoot someone on 5th Avenue and Repubs would still adopt and wait and see pose. All this alleged outrage over the riots, also just a pose.
Timing is everything. This sudden attempt to claim moral high ground comes soon after Trump pardoned employees of her brother’s company who were convicted of viciously murdering and attacking Afghani civilians. Given all of her actions to help for-profit schools that defrauded students, dilute protections for victims of sexual harassment, and benefit other friends, family and pet causes, her road to the moral high ground has long since been totally washed out,
“We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration’s many accomplishments on behalf of the American people. Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protestors overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people’s business,” DeVos wrote. “That behavior was unconscionable for our country, There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me.”
When a person’s rhetoric causes the “violent protestors overrunning the U.S. Capital in an attempt to undermine the people’s business” the “celebrating…accomplishments” is no longer something we discuss. I guess Mussolini did make the trains run on time, but I doubt that people were making speeches about that as he was being strung up from the lightpole.
Yes, but if they truly were, they should be pushing Pence to invoke the 25th and voting with him on removal. And be extremely vocal about it so that when they are fired, everyone knows why.
Even if we just isolate it to the last 72 hours, her moral obligation is to band together with the cabinet, evoke the 25th Amendment, and remove Trump.
So he’s worried about being prosecuted for the deaths of a few people - a “tragedy”
But not about the deaths of 375,000 - a “statistic”?
Somebody once said something similar???
Chou and DeVos are running from their responsibility. Pence refuses to answer the phone for a call from Chuck and Nancy. Pence’s spox says, nobody had asked Pence to invoke 25A. How can they he doesn’t answer the phone. GOP the party of personal responsibility!
Everybody in the Federal Government should stay put, Trump should leave!!!
