DeVos Dodges On CDC Guidelines | Talking Points Memo

Strange to be in a spot where the so-called president (who paid someone else to take his SAT and didn’t take school seriously) is most vocal about kids going back to school full-time and learning (but not that liberal indoctrination stuff). And DeVos, who basically wants to shut down public schools in favor of private and religious schools, is saying public school administrators are smart people who can figure out how to get kids back in the classroom full-time (by figuring a way around CDC guidelines).

And it’s the parents, teachers, and administrators who are saying kids need to be at school, at most, part-time with a max of 1/2 or 1/3 the student body at a time, and other time being distance learning in order to keep more people healthy and alive.

If you think that’s something, you should see her walking backwards in high heels off of the ramp on one of her 10 yachts.

Wouldn’t that require either twice as many teachers, one to teach in class and the other online, or one teacher to work twice as much, teaching both the in class and online cohort?

Yes, I agree. Also, Trump is having trouble with his time sense. I think he is beyond being able to debate now.

I’ve heard the battles between Mom’s and pick-up and drop-off lanes.
I try to learn the school’s start and ending times so I can avoid them.

Apologies if this has already been posted…

A child in Texas infected both parents with #COVID_19.

Both parents are dead.

This is why we can't open the schools.

Most kids will survive.

Countless parents and grandparents will die.

Same here. No buses & the walking routes are not considered safe - fear of both traffic & abduction.

…but don’t call it public day-care. That scares the anarcho-capitalists.

She has an idea fixed in her head. That idea is that schools must reopen full time, everywhere, regardless of where there are hotspots, and regardless of the guidelines provided by the CDC.

YMCAs are not schools, and the YMCA experience should not trump the CDC guidelines.

A district administrator in Virginia says his district cannot possibly meet the guidelines. DeVos waived off his concerns and said she would be happy to talk it over with him in person. Presumably she will make the case that, yes, Virginia can meet the guidelines, or yes, that Virginia can opt out of the guidelines.

When asked if the Department of Education has a policy for what to do when a school has a Covid-19 outbreak, she said that that was just an exception, an exception to the idea fixed in her head I take it. She said essentially that, no, there are no guidelines for dealing with an outbreak, but there is a lot of information “out there” that they could study up on.

Why does Betsy DeVos want to force millions of students into potential plague schools without a plan in place for dealing with outbreaks? Why is she willing to permit an entire school district to reopen when it will be impossible for it to meet the CDC guidelines for schools?

Betsy DeVos, you, madam, are a poor excuse for a Secretary of the Department of Education. You do not get or deserve a cookie, that I can tell you.

I use to walk, bicycle, and then mini bike to dirt bike to finally car at 16.
anywhere up to a mile from school had to find their own way. The trails through the woods got more traffic than the nearby roads. lol

Well those poor orphan kids will get adopted into good Christian homes, so everything is OK for the kid(s). Well except if you’re a brown or black kid.

I wonder how many times you could wrap a measuring tape around her head. That would make a good algebra problem.

Methinks the schools she’s referring to are predominately minority schools in the inner cities. White, private schools can always present a case as to why they shouldn’t be reopened just yet and it involves home schooling. Problem solved.

Her main objective for accepting the job as Ed. Secretary has always been to divert funds from public schools toward private educational institutions, especially those that instill a proper Christian education.
DeVos simply sees the pandemic as another opportunity to achieve this objective.

Furthermore, federal funding is primarily used to facilitate programs for learning and physically-disabled students … programs which she has already demonstrated are low on her list of priorities.

So, provide every student with a laptop, every community with hot-spot wifi access, every teacher with all needed support, and reopen school virtually through online learning. I’m all for it. Would make a great campaign ad.
