DeSantis Keeps FL Election Planners Guessing On What Rules Will Be Relaxed For Pandemic | Talking Points Memo

OT but Inslee has Ok’d construction to restart with conditions. Sounds like a reasonable approach. Business, labor and the state agreed on a plan. Recreation and hospitals -elective surgeries- are next up. I like the way he is going about this -involves the stakeholders and not a one size fits all.

The most important election issue this year is playing out in the courts and has everything to do with who can vote in Florida.

In 2018, well narrowly choosing a racist over a Black man to be Florida Governor, Floridians also overwhelmingly approved an amendment to the constitution that allows many Black people who, starting with Jeb Bush Republican governors in Florida had made a priority to deny the right the vote, the right to vote. That is a constitutional amendment was passed in Florida that if put into effect the state would become mostly democrat controlled and especially in national elections for president.

The racist Republican Governor who barely won along with other Republicans trying desperately to hold power has made priority number one to overturn that amendment through legislation by imposing heavy taxes on Blacks for voting in the face of the 24th amendment expressly outlawing such taxes.

To date the federal courts have sided with the constitution and the 24th amendment but the Supreme Court has yet to way in and well it would take an expedited schedule for the Supreme Court to hear the case before November. But even though it would be obviously a partisan effort to take up the case and then rule opposite of the constitution, at least since 2000 that has not stopped 5 Republicans.

The point being DeSantis plan on elections is contrary to elections and least fair and free ones which is why DeSantis will continue to keep everyone guessing because his rules come down to one goal and that goal is in spite of the people, Republicans win.

Short version:

Trump-stooge Gov. DeSantis of Florida is awaiting marching orders from Donald Trump’s Voter Suppression Task Force in order to deny the greatest number of South Florida voters the ability to cast a ballot in November.

Bets that he sits on his thumb until last minute. Then bets a fucking repug operative goes to a preselected court saying last minute changes are bad. That court will disagree thus giving the FL SC it’s opening to say no changes. So once again folks standing in line to vote at the risk to life.

DeSantis on Nov. 2: “Election? What election? I just decided to declare Trump the winner.”

Serious question: Do they have a Secretary of State? It can’t be that hard.

Large corporations and the tourist industry will not comply with any order De Santis makes that they must open up. They don’t want to face law suits. The clown is making himself irrelevant.

Sure, small operators in the Panhandle with open everything but the tourists are not going to be coming from across the country. You can’t keep businesses open with just locals.

And then the virus will become widespread throughout the state where the MAGA are not careful. Florida could end up being perceived like a morgue. It could have very bad long term effects on the state’s image which could hamper it ever getting the state’s economy back on its feet again.

This is how you don’t approach a medical problem.

I feel your situation. One of my oldest friends is in Florida, health compromised, notes Florida does not have the health care infrastruction we enjoy in the blue states.

I’m proud to report my now-adult children never visited “the evil mouse” as I called it. Never instilled them with this, they never asked, Disney never got a dime from me outside some dvds.

He’s paralyzed by fear. Fear of crossing Trump, fear of a big death toll in Florida, fear of doing anything for which he will be second-guessed and blamed. Sort of like Trump, with the clarification that Trump doesn’t fear being second-guessed by himself, since self-contradiction is part of his M.O.

It’s almost like DeSantis and Kemp in GA are in a competition for second-stupidest elected official in the country.

Gotta say that it was amusing to watch Trump run from his own presser and then announce that he’ll be scaling it back. The ‘bleach’ thing is bad. From a political standpoint, he got branded as ‘bleach man’, a completely nutty idea from a guy who is a nut. Even Wolf Blitzer was calling Trump ‘chicken’. Today was a rare moment when the media told Trump that the emperor had no clothes.

At what point will the republicans realize that its the elderly voters who aren’t going to be turning out to vote because they are the ones most likely to be killed by the disease?
