DeSantis: Defund Universities That Promote ‘Indoctrination’ | Talking Points Memo

That’s why I go by geographyjones and not my actual name, Bob Jones.

That’s not my, er, point. It is to bring up a school that necessarily conducts indoctrination, that they cannot object to. AF Academy is too obscure.

What’s wrong with the Antonin Scalia School of Law, besides that it’s a 100 miles away from the main campus because they want the students to have ready access to DC?

Why do I see an Academic Freedom lawsuit in DeSantis and Florida’s future? A big one!

Please Florida…
give DeSantis the heave ho and toss him to the curb.
The governor should not be controlling what schools teach.

And then stomp on his head, he has no use for it anyway.

It is now state law in Florida that universities are forbidden from teaching “state ideology.”
These people have never let consistency stand in their way.

As I posted on an earlier thread DeSantis is taking his cues from the likes of the execrable David Horowitz who has been pushing the “ban liberal professors” drumbeat for years.
When DeSantis signed a bill banning so-called Critical race theory he’s essentially removing from the history curriculum the 1891 lynching of 11 his Italian American brethren considered to be Black in New Orleans and the how and why of the history behind it. Academic freedom means little to them. It’s as if he’s just for 3/5 of a history curriculum.

Are medical colleges to teach humours and bloodletting alongside the stale and old microbial theory of disease?

I taught in a medical school for decades… How the hell would I incorporate “state ideology” into the biochemistry of steroids, or chemo treatment of ovarian cancer?

It was trivial for Trump to do this.

And a BIG Fuck You to DeSantis!

If they want to advance their careers in Florida, I think “white nationalist” would be a more appropriate answer. Better yet if they learn the hand gestures . . .

Florida has an extensive school tuition tax credit program where corporations can get a tax credit for donating to private academies including Christian ones who teach creationism. So they’re essentially subsidizing indoctrination as well as bad science “The earth is 6000 years old and Jesus saddled up on a dinosaur” via the tax code.

Actually, I think DeSantis is trying to out stupid Trump and it will be a photo finish.

Every university promotes “indoctrination.” That is pretty much the point of most undergraduate and professional school classes.

“Class,” the teacher said, “please repeat after me: Indoctrination is bad.”

“We must avoid groupthink.”

“Only conservative ideas are acceptable to God, and our Governor.”

“All must praise God, and our Governor.”

“Independent thought that is not conservative must be rejected, and corrected. No indoctrination.”
