House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) informed her Democratic colleagues on Sunday night of plans to move forward with impeachment if Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet don’t remove President Donald Trump from office via the 25th Amendment.
I can’t imagine this poltroon Pence doing anything that might ennoble him in the history books. But then I never imagined anything that has come out of this nightmare called tRump.
She is doing the right thing. Republican nattering about healing the country and unity is just blowing smoke. They are in terror of how much is going to come out; thus they are hoping for quiet so they can slither back under heir slimy rocks and hide while the storm passes. But the tumult is just beginning and this storm has barely just broken. These travesties cannot be allowed to stand without condemnation and address. And the country will want bothbmore and more with each passing day that these animals continue to pollute the news
By my math, this is a 48 hour deadline based on what I’m reading. A Monday request for unanimous consent (which will fail), then the resolution being brought to the floor (which I’m assuming will pass) on Tuesday, after which Pence has 24 hours - which brings us to Wednesday.
Can’t they multi-task? She may well know something I don’t, but the 25th seems very unlikely to me. So on Wednesday they begin impeachment, what’s the soonest it gets to the Senate, Friday? Are they hoping to run out the clock also?
I disagree with John Judis’ argument that impeachment is a trap, at least prior to Jan. 20. Get the articles to the Senate and let Mitch do as he will. If they don’t move on them so be it, and after Jan. 20 (if we aren’t post-apocalyptic) then you can think about Clyburn’s suggestion that we wait 100 days, which I agree with.
I think it is imperative to get this done asap. Political calculus is out the window, this is urgent for the good of the country and the world. Get going!
I was hoping Biden would hit the ground running with supplemental checks and an all-out effort to get everyone vaccinated. I was hoping the things he would do would immediately start drowning out Trump. I fear that even if he does all of these things, an impeachment will be the only thing we see on the media.
I really hate Trump, but would you rather hear his name every day as we try to impeach him or would you rather hear a positive story every day about what Biden is doing to help us?
When does Chuck Schumer officially become Senate Majority Leader? It is important that everything about 1/6 is discovered and brought to light so I could see why it would make sense to wait until the changeover in leadership.
I agree, and I think that everything changes after Jan. 20. But we still have 9 days 3 hours and 45 minutes with him as President. That’s 9 days, 3 hours and 45 minutes too long. Get the articles to the Senate, see what Mitch wants to do (maybe they have 67, I have to think at least some R’s - including Mitch - would like nothing more than a final F*** You to the man who has destroyed their party, and whom many have loathed since the day he rode down the escalator).
If we can’t get him out before the 20th then yes, simply drop it, get Joe’s agenda moving forward, and let the legal system deal with the Trumps. But until then, we have to try.
Imagine being Mike Pence these days. You silently contort yourself and erase even your self-image for the past 4+ years to accommodate someone you despise. Trump pressured Pence to overthrow the election on Trump’s behalf, and when Pence finally broke with Trump and said he would not, Trump incited a mob that would gladly have hanged Pence from the gallows it erected. I saw the footage of the crowd marching to the Capitol, chanting “F— You, Mike Pence.” He’s seen that footage, too, and the reports that at least three rioters were asking how to find Pence.
And Pence knows that had he died that day, Trump would have said “It’s a very sad thing, about Mike.
But he knew what he signed up for.”
So now Pence can either do what he ought to do, relieve Trump of his powers, or resume his game of pretend. Either way, Pence is toast and his political career is over, which he knows quite well.
I think Pence will do nothing, not out of loyalty to Trump, but out of inertia and habit, which is all you really need to know about the man.
