Dems Announce Two Articles Of Impeachment: Abuse Of Power And Obstruction | Talking Points Memo

Except that we hear daily about the do-nothing House and how they are bound and determined to continue to do nothing until Trump is out of office.

Of course, this completely ignores the 400+ bills the House has sent to the Senate that #DitchMoscowMitch refuses to bring to a vote.

It’s part of the messaging that the Dems, and Nancy in particular, is just too light on.

Well, in a decent America from 40+ years ago…yes. But Rs have disgraced themselves so hard for so long, I don’t think what you suggest moves the needle. If you aren’t already sickened by what happened. So my take is the only thing that will depress R voters is FRESH testimony, not a year for Rs to fog the field.

I don’t think it will matter if one of the inner circle breaks. They will immediately be discredited; Trump will immediately state that he didn’t know the guy.

And as to the Republican Brand meaning something, it still does. And the GOP is very happy with it: win at any cost, including engaging and accepting international interference.

And if the Dems don’t run on that every day, we’ll get more of the same.

How long did investigations and Impeachment inquiries go during Nixon’s time?

WHERE? You keep all this nay-saying, and complaining that nobody is “messaging” things.

And like every example you come up with, I can find speeches, appearances, articles, interviews, etc. where they have been doing just that.

The number of bills that the dems have passed was in testimony just yesterday, FFS, during the hearings.

And so revenge of the bullied becomes the narrative, as opposed to the Saudis are not our friends.

Never mind that the roots of most contemporary terrorism is indeed revenge of the bullied on a grand scale.

Totally Different thing. That was about water under the bridge-- a third-rate burglary which had already happened.

This is about an on-going (Giuliani in Ukraine just days ago) effort to influence the next election.

Yeah, I get Schiff is saying stuff about obstruction, and indeed that there’s an impeachment count for obstruction of congress, but the messaging could not be more technical or small-bore. It’s not even messaging. It’s a memo for the record.

Note that there is no recorder. There is no fair-minded paterfamilias in Conor Lamb’s marginal PA district who is giving Dems credit for their gravity and moderation. There is no tribunal in the sky. There is no justice. There is only power, and power is in the hands of low-info voters with short attention spans and Democratic supporters who want to their politicians, for whom they’ve emptied their wallets and spent hours and weeks organizing and agitating, to do stuff that makes sense to them. Business as usual does not make sense.

Ask the person on the street. Ask them about the House and what it’s doing.

If you get any answer at all, it’ll be the Right Wing talking points. These are the voters.

The Dems just aren’t getting it out there as loudly as the Right.

You can disagree if you want, but that’s what I’m seeing.

@nemo, above, makes a similar case.

You must live in a very red place. Making broad generalizations off of who you run into is worthless.

Heck, in my area, any wanna-be MAGAts keep very quiet about it, it’s nearly impossible to find anyone who supports trump.

But I’m not going to extrapolate from that that he has no support anywhere.

This shooting is being seriously under-reported. The shooter hosted a dinner party earlier in the week where he showed videos of prior terror attacks. There’s evidence that at least one other Saudi student was recording video of the shooting, and that several Saudi students are still unaccounted for.

And trump’s Secretary of Defense is reported as minimizing the videotaping of the attack - essentially, it’s no big deal because that’s today’s social media for you.

The first link has Esper’s comments, while the second is a more in-depth report on what’s now known. (Because the US Naval Academy is in Maryland, the Baltimore Sun is providing extensive coverage of the incident. The link is to the Sun, but the thumbnail says Chicago - I don’t know why))

Not necessarily. Just remember that the polls don’t reflect the number of Trump supportres in that magic 40-something percent. Also, the polls: again, are these landlines? People on landlines at home during the day? Could someone - like Nate Silver - explain this to us? (I haven’t really looked so I’m just kvetching as usual.)

Trump: Well, that explains it then! No problem!

I’ll wait until next week on the polls - it takes about a week, maybe more, for the polls to reflect the current position.

I know that, after the Schiff hearings, there wasn’t much movement. So let’s see what happens next week.

Is that a real poncho… i mean
Is that a mexican poncho

There’s no way a staged landing in Los Alamos could escape Santa Fe gossip undetected. Manhattan only worked because it was wartime and the frontier was not yet completely closed.

And this is the dilemma the Republicans have created for themselves. There will always be about 1/3 of the population in any country who crave authoritarianism and strongman rule. The R party has thrown themselves to this pack of wolves but now they are the prey. They must keep running toward an increasingly more authoritarian/fascist stance to keep the wolves happy, or else they’ll be eaten.

We keep hearing hints about how so many elected Republicans are alarmed by their situation. They want to condemn trump, but dare not buck the trend. Only a few openly condemn the horror; the rest are putting on a show, lying and sucking trump’s ass to cling to power. It’s an awful charade that will fall apart eventually. How much damage happens to our nation in the meantime?

Make this about the constitution. Make it clear. Make the Republicans have to agree that they are throwing everything we are supposed to hold dear as Americans out the window to support a man who would be king.

During the Clinton impeachment, Rush Limbaugh and the Republicans huffed and puffed with full fury, but the American people didn’t buy it.

To say the public will be easily fooled by a weaker Republican Party now needs some evidence (imho).
