House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC), who also serves as the chair of the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, warned ranking member Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) on Monday that Republicans who refused to wear facial coverings during committee sessions would not be allowed to participate.
Donât fret, Scalise. Iâm sure you guys will eventually retake the House and you will be able to include any diseased idiot that you want to have into your meeting.
The nature of partisan politics in the USA means that masks are seen as a political tool, not a public health tool. Conservatives are worried wearing a mask is giving up ground to the left. (Or worried it will look like weakness to their paranoid cannibalistic GOP base.)
This is also why conservatives refuse to say âblack lives matterâ except as referring to the organization Black Lives Matter, and then itâs like theyâre spitting out a bug. If you ask them âdo black lives matter?â they donât say âyes, of courseâ, they say âALL lives matterâ because thatâs their phrase, by saying that they arenât giving up any political ground. (Itâs also to deflate the point that black lives are more at risk.)
This is why reasoned political debate isnt possible anymore. Even though by their own phrase they are admitting that âblack lives matter TOOâ, they will never just say so, and so there is no way to come to any kind of agreement.
This should be known as the Louie Gohmert Rule, or as Charlie Pierce describes him the âPadishah Emperor For Life of the Crazy People.â (Though I am going to guess that the equally dumb Gaetz and others are also refusing to mask.) I should stock some popcorn when they enforce this against one of these preening morons. Theyâll probably paint thermoses blue for the occasion and bellow âFreeeeedom!â
âThe science is unanimous - if we all wear masks, we slow down the spread and can reopen safely. Itâs not a political issue. Anyone making it a political issue is an absolute moron who canât read.â
perfect , as all the comments above are.
I liked them all without clicking.
The dems are finally going to start dropping the hammer on the gop.
yeah!!!
I guess this makes it inevitable for R-run committees to exclude anyone who does wear a mask, perhaps for some BS reason like being âunable to ascertain their identityâ.
