Michael Esper was just the start. Days after President Trump lost the 2020 election, and hours after the ouster of the defense secretary that had been long in his crosshairs, several other officials in top Pentagon and Intelligence Community roles have been canned. Their replacements all have a reputation for being Trump loyalists. Two of them worked for Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) before joining the administration and a third has also been linked to Nunes’ efforts to politicize intelligence to further Trump’s false claims about the “Deep State.”
Tata falsely referred to former President Barack Obama as a Muslim, and called him a “Manchurian candidate” and a “terrorist leader” who did more to harm the US “and help Islamic countries than any president in history,” among other things. Once, Tata wrote to former CIA Director John Brennan, “Might be a good time to pick your poison: firing squad, public hanging, life sentence as prison b*tch, or just suck on your pistol.”
Asha Rangappa has a good thread on this. She is suggesting these moves are all part of a cover-up.
LINT (short thread): People are asking — I guess on a scale of 1-10 — how worried we should be. Well, if I’m right (about this being a cover-up, not a “coup”) there’s good news and bad news https://t.co/YQE9HRH7Pj

People are asking, “What could he be covering up?” I dunno, but the guy is a 🤬ing walking national security threat who owes $421 million to an unknown entity and has clearly seen the presidency as a personal profit-making venture. I mean...let’s explore the possibilities? 🤷🏽♀️
I agree that it’s more likely a coverup than a coup, but you’d think there would be enough redundancy in intelligence matters to prevent an individual or even a cabal from destroying information.
I’m not overly concerned, though, because this bunch are mostly incompetent and the corollary to ETTD is ETTF - everything Trump tries fails. Or mostly does.
Pompeo is far from the only morally bankrupt person from West Point floating around in Republican politics. If I ran that institution, I’d take a long look as to why so many graduates have failed the Honor Code and let the country down.
Maybe these new guys are the most adept at computer disc scrubbing and paper shredding. A benefit to NOT allowing the transition to begin is the Biden people won’t be able to uncover all the misdeeds and crimes too early in the process. Once those Biden folks are in the door, it is going to be a bit harder for the trumpistas to do their dirty work. Harder but not likely stopping them. Still, so distressing that 71M humanoids voted for him after the past 4 years; that right wing bubble is strong, sadly.
