Sasse, Collins, and Murkowski could’ve voted to convict and remove Trump from office. They did not and here we are. However, his take down of Hawley (and Hawley’s fellow travelers) is welcome. More of this is required from Republicans if we expect to keep our democracy.
The interesting dynamic to watch for here is that the House is controlled by the Dems, so this can’t work at all and is doomed to failure. That actually frees some of the worst of the worst Senators to vote for overturning the election, scuttling all that is left of our democracy and installing Trump as the white Christian nationalist God-King. Anyone wanna take bets on who might volunteer to go down in history as a traitor?
My money is on Cotton and Cruz both announcing their 2024 presidential campaigns by joining in the treason.
I have been fairly impressed with Olivia and her honesty about her former leader.
The scales do seem to have fallen from her eyes.
Ah, the Peanutweeter days went by too fast. I suppose adding ‘Satire/not Peanuts’ keeps litigious King Features off someone’s back.
Or is this one your personal concoction?
If he had done the right thing, he would get primaried and have to work for a living. The majority of the people living in the red states are at fault for the state of our politics. It is ironic that the post Civil War Republicans brought in all those small population Midwestern and Western states to keep the South from getting control of the Senate. Kansas, Nebraska, and the Dakotas should be one state, at most.
Haven’t the voters been heard in hundreds of affidavits, dozens of court cases, multiple public hearings, and by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security?
I can both curse Sasse out to the tune of 1,000 suns and still say, “Thanks”.
Collins helped save the ACA in 2017. Thanks
I hate Collins as much as McConnell.

D’oh!
And Chuck Hagel.
Going Independent isn’t necessary. If republicans hold the Senate, they can essentially become the power in the Senate by just working with Dems on items of their choosing, and rejecting McConnell. Murkowski and Sasse are probably the squishiest in that group, as they has to worry about re-election in 2022 and don’t want McConnell funding an opponent. But Collins has no worries, and Romney is about as safe as can be in Utah.
Officially leaving the party is probably a kiss of death for any of them, however, as it was Amash (he retired from his post instead of running the inevitable losing campaign).
The danger of course from our side, is by becoming powerful in such a manner, the will also have quite a bit of say so on any legislation needing their vote. And at the end of they day, none of these people are our allies on most legislation.
“We ought to be better than that." Sasse
Sorry, Benny Boy, Newtie took care of that years ago. And republicans have been running away from being “better than that” ever since.
Joe McCarthy, Nixon and Lee Atwater/Karl Rove where just the tip of the NeoNazi iceberg it would appear. I wouldn’t expect Cruz, Rubio or Graham to act otherwise in their quest for power and glory. There are only fascists left in the GOP.
But do you want to be collateral damage?
Sassy Ben! - who has not seen one disgusting Trump move that he either blatantly supported or looked away from and pretended he didn’t see or knew nothing about - must have thrust his arm pretty far up his own ass to pull out that small fragment of a conscience that he is attempting to show us now.
But I guess comparing Sassy Ben! to Josh Hawley is like comparing a can of spoiled tuna fish to a vial of cyanide: next to the poison, that rancid fish looks awfully fucking tasty!
RonJohn would be offended that you left him out. He’s at least that crazy and treasonous.
There has been discussion of Harris running the Senate instead of Mitch. It will depend on the extent of those powers but if she can bring things up for votes over Mitch’s objection, then the “moderate” Republicans might join with the Dems, at least on some issues.
I guarantee they are both eyeing Hawley right now, and see how much traction he gains in the “who is running” press.
Sasse himself said: “Adults don’t point a loaded gun at the heart of legitimate self-government."
For members of a political party to wrap themselves in the flag and claim the mantle of patriotism and God, to remain indifferent is grotesque and hateful. It is amoral.

Let us hope that the Democratic efforts in Georgia are decidedly “iceberg-like” in that what is seen is large … but what is beneath the surface is 10X larger … and produces a difinitive victory.
Relegated to being the minority should cause Mitch grave concern … and with good reason …
