A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. It’s Happening Slower Than You Can See The historic constitutional clash over President Trump’s lawless immigration policies continues at a pace that is difficult for casual observers to follow on daily basis, but a burst…

For unknown reasons Trump seems to think that releasing the Hur Biden tapes he is going to hurt the Democratic party. IMO, this is wrong… this could be exactly what the Democratic party needs; i.e. to be exposed as only caring about winning. It’s past time for all of the octogenarians in the Democratic party to get out of congress, they have proven that what they care about is making money and retaining power; they don’t care about the American people on the same scale.

I am going whole Hogg.

U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts on Wednesday defended judicial independence as the “only real political science innovation” in the Constitution amid President Donald Trump’s repeated attacks on the courts, while declaring he has no plans to give up his influential position anytime soon.

In a fireside chat at the Western District of New York’s 125th anniversary celebration, Roberts said the independence of the judiciary is “central” to the way the country functions.

They’re just words, John, Blah, blah, blah. You did this to yourselves, and you keep supporting him.

Leopard. Face.

Oh, and this -

During his fireside chat, Roberts, who assumed his position as chief justice in 2005, also made clear he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

“I’m going out feet first,” he said.

I’m sure that can be facilitated.

American people are not an easy group of people to care about. You can scratch almost half of them off the “I need to reach out to that person” list, as they’re MAGA cultists. Ergo, insane and inalterably irredeemable.

Brief summary of Trump vs Courts

C: Stop what you are doing.

T: Stop what?

C: Stop what you are doing.

T: What am I doing?

C: That’s what we are trying to figure out.

T: Then how can I stop it.

forcing another round of delays in the case

It takes a long time to determine fairness in court, but only an instant to conduct crime.

Wouldn’t make me unhappy to see Anonymous join the fight.

From Forbes: " Anonymous Operation DreadNought Targets Trump Deportation Airline

Cybercriminal groups have started to use Trump-related baits, such as fears about tariffs imposed by the U.S. administration, in phishing attacks. But concerted hacking attacks targeting organizations associated with the Trump administration have been few and far between. Password compromise, credit card theft, and retail ransomware attacks dominate the cybercrime news agenda. But what about the political activist hacking agenda?

"Hackers claiming to represent the Anonymous collective have reached out to a number of journalists with details of a web defacement attack against GlobalX, a charter airline that has been linked to flights to El Salvador as part of President Trump’s deportation efforts…The defacement can still be seen using the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. Mostly containing words from a recent ruling by U.S. District Judge Fernandez Rodriguez regarding the invocation of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798…

“However, Anonymous also claims to have stolen flight records and passenger manifests, which include details of the deportation flights and passengers.”

But “Britmentum!”

This sickens me, but not being in the EU, they have to fend for themselves. My bet though is that this “deal” is just a return to the pre-Trump status quo.

ETA Of course, the caveat:

negotiation before it can be ratified.

“U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis of Maryland has ordered expedited discovery…She plans to use the information gathered to determine whether the Trump administration has acted in good faith or stonewalled her orders.”

The Trump administration’s response? Bad faith and stonewalling.
With apologies to Albert King, if it weren’t for bad faith, these goons wouldn’t have no faith at all.

Agreed. But IMO an elected member of congress or senate should care more about people than their next election, and I certainly don’t see that.

10yrs in and the news still jumps when Trump tells them too, regardless of how many cliffs they’ve gone over.

It’s infrastructure week every week in America now

More of the same ineptitude. Second try. Maybe we can get by without a Surgeon General this time around.

Something interesting I learned from following a link from NPR article:

The government when it invests in public research gets from 155% to 210% return on its dollar for our economy.

That’s because California actually has a Medicaid program, uses it well and works to get all the federal funds they’re entitled to while paying more into it than any other state. In other words, the world’s 4th largest economy is a functioning state.

CA and NY contribute, what, I may be off, >50% of all taxes to the Federal government.
