The White House is taking the position Trump never personally asked, or personally directed anyone else to ask, for Ukraine to perform certain acts in exchange for something from the United States.
So, offer Trump the opportunity to be put under oath at a House hearing, guaranteeing him that will be the one and only question posed.
“Did you personally offer anything, or personally direct anyone else to offer anything, to anyone in the Ukrainain government, in exchange for them performing an act or acts related to Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, or involving any aspects of the 2016 U.S. Presidential election and alleged involvement of persons in Ukraine in that election?”

You can defy political gravity only for so long. It has a way of pulling a body down, one facial feature at a time. The intermediate stages can be a bit disturbing to witness.
