Congress Passes Anti-Lynching Bill For First Time After Over 100 Years Of Trying

The Senate on Monday unanimously approved the Emmett Till Antilynching Act of 2022, which would make lynching a federal hate crime, and sent it over to President Joe Biden’s desk for his signature.

I’m so glad to have been proven wrong on this one. I thought Antarctica would have melted into the sea before the fascistgop would allow anti-lynching legislation to make it through congress.

Progress!

‘The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice,’” Rush said.

Was skimming through the article and for a split second thought Fat Rush said this and thought, huh?! Then I realized it wasn’t him and besides, he’s not that wise and he’s fucking dead.

And he would like some ice water, please.

I had to reread it twice because I was shocked just reading the Congress passes part, but glad they were able to agree that race based murder is bad.

I guess this is where we have to go to get anything honestly bipartisan - our legislature is truly broken.

Imagine bragging to the rest of the world that we just passed an anti-lynching bill - in 2022.

By Unanimous Consent in the Senate.

Go fuck yourselves, should’ve made every pro-lyncher get on the record with an actual vote.

Would’ve been even more worth it if the bill failed due to a filibuster due to the opposition.

Why let racists hide?

Here are the three miscreants. If you get the chance, troll the bejeezus out of them on Twitter. I know I have.

Wellll… Technically they didn’t touch on that, just said that you can’t hang people for racial reasons…

Killing them because they have a bag of skittles is still cool, tho, let alone if they pass a fake $20 bill or sell loose cigarettes.

That was just the House, which did actually vote. The Senate just did unanimous consent so they didn’t have to have any votes on record.

I’m frankly surprised #moscowmitch let this one through. Maybe he’s scared?

Uh oh, you mean the R’s are going to lose seats for betraying their core values?

100 years to pass this bill. Speaks volumes of so many members of our congress and their constituencies. Who can imagine being a member of the House or Senate and being afraid to vote for this bill?

Well, at least we can agree on something.

Good Q. As with most legislation, I’m always curious about the details (titles are often misleading and they’ll stuff extras in that make it much worse a bill than the headlines suggest).

This one is about as clean as you can fucking get. That there were three members of the House that voted against it and another few non-votes is despicable.

And the Senate should definitely have gone on the record so we know, by name, who is pro-lynching there.

If letting the cowards hide was the price to pay for passing the bill, I say it was worth getting it done.

I take this as another sign that tfg is losing his grip on the party. Racism and political violence are a couple of his core values.

I’d rather see them put it to a vote, get those folks on record. Then hammer away at them as to why they’re pro-lynching, in 2022.

Which means that all 100 Senators technically voted in favor of the bill.
