Putin, and Russia under Putin, is not an existential threat to the US. Indeed, one of the ways Putin stays in power is facilitating favored oligarchs’ moving of cash out of Russia and into countries where they would prefer to live.

I agree, and I agree with the assessment that Russia is currently a “gas station with nuclear weapons”… In other words, it needs to feed energy to Europe for cash to keep things afloat, but if you total up its economic weight, it’s a bit player and only its nukes keep it relevant. Putin has done a masterful job of keeping them relevant, just with his macinations, but it’s a fading power fur sure.

Hmmm, what movie? Might I presume Edward R. Murrow and Joseph Welch to be among the actors? (I was born four months before Murrow took down McCarthy and grew up on that story.)
I don’t look at them as an international power like China is, but they are one of the top 3 threats to the security of America.

It was excellent. I loved the ending when McCarthy ended up as an institutionalized alcoholic and died shorty after. Cast is excellent. Burgess Meredith, Peter Boyle, Jean Stapleton, Ned Beatty, John Forsythe and etc.
After watching it, I dreamed that Burgess Meredith helped me build a garage last night . Weird dream.

I was not aware he was institutionalized. The actual footage of Murrow’s See It Now, and Joseph Welch’s confronting McCarthy in the Army-McCarthy hearings are all riveting. There are numerous clips on YouTube of each.

I don’t know if the movie was 100% accurate, but I should have used the term “treatment facility” instead of institutionalized. Regardless, the movie was enjoyable. Had no idea McCarthy was such a lying, crooked prick for most of his adult life before he arrived in the Senate. And his friendship with Joe and the rest of the Kennedy clan surprised me.

Not a noble chapter in the Kennedy family history. McCarthy was friends with Papa Joe. Robert as a newly minted lawyer served on McCarthy’s committee (he was the one Kennedy to attend McCarthy’s funeral, although most Senators did attend the Washington service). Jack Kennedy famously skipped out on the Censure vote.
It was one of Murrow’s finest hours, although he had no small amount of “finest hours.”
