I actually think what’s truly ailing us is that this generation of conservatives, i.e. reactionaries, haven’t had to live thru any actual national crises that’s required any sort of real sacrifice on their part. To your point on Reagan, I believe he was the first of the actual GOP leadership in the 20th century that managed to avoid fighting in war. Dole fought admirably but wasn’t able to make it out of the Senate and they’ve all been charlatans otherwise since Reagans rise.
*Forgot about HW, he fought, but was ultimately too serious of a person for the modern GOP that evolved around him.
Meh. McFadden can go suck it. People like him should be stuffed fully into their own dickholes in a gross parody of the dragon swallowing its own tail.
We call them Trump judges, but what they really are are McConnell judges. Trump just appointed whomever he was told to appoint and the judges know that. If they care where their bread was buttered, it’s McConnell they’ll take care of, not Trump.
I would go back to the entering first post-WWII, 80th Congress, January '47, giving us Tail Gunner Joe and Nixon, and the formal start of the politics of resentment. I would put the second wave as circa '88-'89: Lee Atwater / Willie Horton; the start of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News - and Gingrich. What a hall of fame.
McFadden concluded by cautioning Neal not to publish Trump’s returns.
“Anyone can see that publishing confidential tax information of a political rival is the type of move that will return to plague the inventor,” McFadden wrote. ” It might not be right or wise to publish the returns, but it is the Chairman’s right to do so."
No activist judgery going on here, nosirree, bob.
Congress has granted him this extraordinary power, and courts are loath to second guess congressional motives or duly enacted statutes.”
Yeah, “courts” are loathe, but McFadden sure isn’t.
Well, you’d think nothing. How a judge can say that Neal clearly has the authority and has demonstrated a legislative purpose, and then delay for any time at all, let alone 2 weeks, is a master class in judicial activism.
Shit, I Googled Tail Gunner Joe and discovered the McCarthy movie on YouTube. A lot of great actors in the cast …so now I’m watching it. Didn’t plan on spending 2 hours and 22 minutes watching a movie tonight, but now I’m hooked after watching 13 minutes.
The US hasn’t faced a substantial existential threat since the end of the cold war. That has opened the door to all kinds of silliness. Gorbachev said to Reagan right about when the soviet union was being dissolved: “We have done the cruelest thing to you that we could possibly have done. We have deprived you of an enemy.”
When Trump has actual legal issues, not just trying to create delay, but to avoid legal peril, he hires, and pays, actual, qualified attorneys who, I presume, accept payment in advance. He only uses Falafel Store Lawyers(r) when he’s just trying to piss away time.
