Collins group is a few of those Repugs seeking reelection and desperately looking for cover when witnesses are not called. They will of course not pursue calling witnesses or introducing documentary evidence seriously but be very ‘concerned’ on the way.

This is mere ass-covering on Collins’ part, unless it opens the way to a real trial of the evidence. If such a trial with witness testimony were held it could introduce further bombshell evidence that Trump should be removed. At that point, McConnell could lose 6 or 7 senators, not enough to remove, but certainly a clear majority. And it would look like McConnell wants to give Trump carte blanche to do whatever crazy stuff his inner voices are telling him to do.

Why even report on anything Collins says ever? The day she actually votes her ‘concerns’ is the day to bother getting a quote from her, not before.

Lets be blunt here. When Susan Collins says she is working on allowing witnesses, I don’t believe her. I don’t believe one word she is saying. Not one.
Having witnesses is not in Collins interest (it would make her vote to acquit harder), but she does not want to look like she is trying to hold them back, as that will not go over well in Maine.
So she lies.
Tell me when Mirkowski, or Romney is looking at witnesses. I will believe what they are saying. Hell I would believe someone like Pat Roberts and Lamar Alexander. Not Collins.
Why won’t you name the others in your group? Why aren’t they making similar announcements in their home states?
