Collins ‘Open To Witnesses’ In Impeachment, Says McConnell And Warren Not Being ‘Impartial’ | Talking Points Memo

I could never quite understand Maine having such a blood-red, lickspittle loving Rube constituency. But I have no first-hand knowledge of the state except some brief visits. I would think her bastion of hard-core Rubes is softer than many Red areas. Can you enlighten me?

True enough. We need not dig too deep quite yet hehe

I have no interest in defending Collins, but she is right about propounding questions to witnesses. “XIX. If a Senator wishes a question to be put to a witness, . . . it shall be reduced to writing, and put by the Presiding Officer [CJ Roberts].”

When she pledged to only serve two terms.

I would love to think Collins is really in electoral trouble in a somewhat blue state, but she won in 2014 by a literally 37-point margin. It was 23 points in 2008, 17 points in 2002, and 5 points in 1998. That trendline is . . . not great.

and c) Collins has been “instructed” to attack Warren now that Warren is a credible contender for the D nomination.

There’s a world of difference between McConnell and Warren here. Warren’s actually studied the evidence and found it overwhelming whereas McConnell doesn’t care about the evidence at all. I hope the media doesn’t let her get away with this ridiculous “bothsiderism”.

Actually Murkowski voted present on Kavanaugh

Right, a Senator can put a question to a witness who is already testifying. Susan Collins cannot send a polite note to the Chief Justice that requires him to make a phone call to Mick Mulvaney to ask whether Orange Julius Caesar committed high crimes and misdemeanors.

And there she is under the bus where she threw herself. With the black lung.

Senators, like any politician, love bloviating to any camera they can find. However, in this particular case it’s wrong to announce how each will vote. McConnell has announced for all to hear that this “trial” is gonna be thoroughly rigged so as to make it unrecognizable as a trial. He will have it designed as a total absolving and whitewash of any crime trump has committed from creation to the end of time. The GOP is not a conservative party. trump has made it a slavish toe kissing cult that has conceeded any and all power it once had to him alone. He said “only I can fix it”.

Welcome to the reality of the novel “1984”.
Happy New Year TPMers.

Note:

In the upcoming election please vote. Vote like your life depends on it… because it does.

Yes, these days, you can’t be too careful.

Big difference between a single Senator having an opinion and the Senate Majority Leader who is setting up the rules and processes for the trial announcing he is coordinating with the subject of the proceedings.

Really big.

Unfortunately Collins doesn’t have the voice for radio, unless you’re talking about her local Maine Public Radio station.

Well Suze had to say something since Lisa took her go to response “disturbed”, but why she didn’t use her “concerned” response is a head scratcher.

Rump is going to launch a war with Iran. Republican thought police will be trying to get everyone fired and blacklisted who fails to salute correctly, starting next year.

I know its NYE and all…

But I am a little disconcerted that TPM can’t get an article up about our embassy being under attack in Iraq by Iranian militia.

Maybe its just me, but that seems like a bigger story than Collins stating her concern and clutching her pearls act yet again.
