A White House official told CNN Monday that it would review Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) request to subpoena key former and current White House aides for testimony in the impending Senate impeachment trial.
I didn’t relaize Schunmer was still on the job. He has to be the weakest Snate minority leader in US History…nice job allowing Trump and Moscow Mitch to ram rod all these unqualified right wing judges to Federal lifetime posts. If McConnell was the minority leader, he would have shut the government down to stop the Democrats from filling open judge positions. But no, Schumer goes along with Moscow Mitch and allows for incompetent and unqualified right wingers to get lifetime jobs.
Schumer…you need to retire and let a real fighter take over.
If I ever get audited by the IRS I’ll inform them I’ll give due consideration as to whether I’ll allow any agents or representatives of their agency to participate in the audit.
Hallo, comrade! It must be cold in St. Pete, hope you are keeping nice and warm at 55 Ulitsa Savushkina. Say hello to the rest of the folks there from us here at TPM!
Goodness. Snyde but totally apt. Anyone who thinks there’s a snowball’s chance of the White House producing the two witnesses who will have to lie under oath to protect Trump needs to tell me which bridge over the East River he/she is interested in purchasing.
The news came in while Schumer sat for an interview on CNN’s “New Day” Monday morning.
“Good,” Schumer responded. “It’s different than some of the tweets that just say ‘show trial,’ ‘everything’s perfect,’ et cetera.”
Not good. Schumer should be saying that the White House has no role here – that the White House should not be given veto power over how the House presents its case to the Senate, and using to to criticize McConnell’s spineless sucking up to Trump.
Schumer is doing exactly what Pelosi is doing – her #1 priority is keeping the House in Dem control, Schumer’s #1 priority is flipping the Senate to GOP control. So he’s been acting in ways to ensure that Dems keep all their current seats in 2020 and not alienate Trump voters too much.
You must have missed McConnell’s statements regarding coordination with the WH. Of course this gets passed over for their “review”. Why, it would be a dereliction of duty if it weren’t. /s
Usually I don’t say that I’ve upvoted someone, because I should click the upvote and move on. However, your answer is way better than anything that I can think of, so, yeaaaaaa.
To echo this point: it’s ridiculous that Trump is “reviewing” subpoenas of witnesses in his own impeachment trial. There is no legal basis for Trump to say anything about whether these witnesses are subpoenas. If he wants them to claim Executive Privilege, that’s another matter, but such an argument would be immediately and decisively shot down.
If they’re blocked from testifying a second time, that’s obstruction of justice. If they were blocked from testifying to an ‘unfriendly’ House, but are allowed to testify to a ‘friendly’ Senate, that’s proof of obstruction of justice.
Trump people are authoritarian, for the most part.
“At your feet or at your throat” describes enough of them to be an actionable assumption.
What should be looked at as an indication of weakness at best and, frankly, illegal and improper is looked at by too many people as an indication of strength.
It is “strength” only with a corrupted legal and judiciary system. And with an uneducated population. That’s one of the reasons Trump said, early on in his 2016 campaign:
Sort of like Don McGahn’s claims to Executive Privilege were immediately and decisively shot down, and he was made to testify before House committees regarding what he knew about the campaign and the aftermath of the campaign vis-a-vis all things Russia and Trump?
