Closing Arguments Begin In Trial Of Men Accused Of Murdering Ahmaud Arbery | Talking Points Memo

Closing arguments began Monday in the murder trial of three white men — Gregory McMichael, his son Travis McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan Jr. — who are accused of murdering 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, a Black man, while he was out on a jog near his home town of Brunswick, Georgia, in February last year.

If theses perps are acquitted Target stock will plummet 40%.

I think this prosecutor is really good. Her argument is clearly drawn out and explained. BUT I am a little concerned that she is coming off a little too “pushy” for a woman, seeing that this is rural Georgia.

Thank heavens it’s not defense attorney / judge Schroeder on the bench.

It won’t matter because of jury bias. There is simply no way you are going to get 11 white guys in South Georgia to agree that this was a crime. After all Arbery did try to take McMichael’s gun away, and the way those people see it when the white guys ordered him to stop he should have obeyed.

These guys will be joining Rittenhouse for Thanksgiving.

Certainly one of the three has a Georgia U.S. Senate run in his future.

“You cannot create the situation and then go ‘I was defending myself,’” Dunikoski says.

Apparently you can, if you drive to the right state.

Excellent.

Sure you can. Put on a badge and start pulling over black people for failure to signal a lane change. Like shooting fish in a barrel, as they say.

Apparently, one can in Wisconsin. Fortunately, the law may be a little more rational in Georgia, but that won’t last long.

It’s incredible how often these guys portray themselves as “superior” to women, but are so fragile about any potential competition, much less a challenge. Back in the day, girls were always told they had to “let the boy win.” It was crazy … and apparently still is in some places.

So you are saying his information is wrong???

No, I’m saying he’s a grifting POS whose voice should not be in any way amplified.

Serious question for the defense counsel: if your client spent so much time learning about the proper use of deadly force, why did he shoot an unarmed man?

Dunikoski has raised concerns over slides she just saw the defense preparing to present, saying they contained images that were new to her.

I have never seen ‘new evidence’ introduced in closing arguments, especially when not reviewed with the opposing counsel.

If I recall, that should be dismissed and not entered. @txlawyer, am I wrong about that?

You are 100% correct. No new evidence during closing. New arguments are okay, new images are not.

ETA: And while I have never done a criminal trial, it is routine for counsel in civil trials to exchange their closing Powerpoints in advance – either by agreement or by order of the court – in order to work out these sorts of issues before they appear on-screen in front of the jury.
