A federal grand jury investigating the events surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection has subpoenaed former White House counsel Pat Cipollone, the New York Times, CNN and ABC News report.
People need to keep in mind that executive privilege doesn’t apply to criminal activity and belongs to the current President and not the former guy. If Biden waives it, it is waived regardless of what Trump thinks.
Unlike Congress, DOJ won’t let Patsy Baloney claim (nonexistent) privilege to get out of answering questions. He’ll have to respond. Imagine the incriminating information about Trump he withheld to Congress?
I’m not too challenged when it comes to technology. But sometimes it’s sure as hell frustrating. I think if I tried to wiped something from my phone I’d end up what twice what I started with, the damned thing would seize up, and I’d be down at the AT&T store looking for help.
It looks like someone had to coordinate the elimination of all that possible evidence, presumably someone in the administration with the ‘appropriate’ authority.
It’d be interesting to find out who it was who saw it as their duty to systematically violate federal records laws. And, just maybe, chat with them about it and where the idea came from.
ETA: It could put a somewhat different spin on Donnie’s refusal to cooperate with the transition.
Actually I have been thinking to going back and looking at the thread I had with my sisters as we were all in shock at what we were witnessing and the various levels of concern we all had.
I am. And I am now focused on the depth and breadth of the conspiracy. Hiding an elephant in a phone booth is the best I can do with regard to describing the situation Team Trump is in.
Keep in mind that executive privilege exists and most of Trump’s conversations with Cipollone will be covered by executive privilege which Biden’ won’t waive. It is just Jan. 6 and all the related events that are tied to criminal activity aren’t covered. The DOJ is going to have to sort out which information is covered and which isn’t. It is going to be a fact specific determination.
Climbing up the ladder to the big shit. I doubt Cipollone is going to get away with all his privilege calls. If he wants to save what is left of his rep he better be ready to spill.
I’m not sure that his rep, in his career arc of choice, would necessarily be furthered by open ended cooperation with an investigation.
If there are questions about his suitability for a license to practice law, there might be more leverage.
