Chief Justice Roberts Says Roe Leaker Would Be ‘Foolish’ To Think Leak Will Affect SCOTUS’ Work

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts on Thursday slammed the unknown person who leaked a draft of the conservative majority’s opinion striking down Roe v. Wade.

"…was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed.”

John, that ship has sailed long ago.

“A leak of this stature is absolutely appalling,” Roberts said during an appearance at the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. “If the person behind it thinks that it will affect our work, that’s just foolish.”

It already has, Ump.

It’s almost comical how they keep pretending the court still has any integrity.

It reminds me when they argued that money in politics doesn’t even give the appearance of corruption.

What the leak shows is that Roberts is a worthless Chief Justice and that Roberts legacy is in the sewer. The leak also hi lights the fact that at least 3 of the justices bald faced lied during their confirmation hearing before the Senate.

Chief Injustice Roberts is flat out wrong when he says the leak, almost certainly perpetrated by someone who does not want the decision to change, will not affect the Court’s proceedings.

That is like with Casey whereby Republicans pressured a Justice to switch his initial vote overturning Roe because it was good politics to keep Roe while at the same time screaming they wanted it overturned, the leak makes Republican first and only Roberts attempts at this standard Republican hypocrisy that they have practiced and mostly gotten away with the last 40 years if not more difficult more obvious/transparent.

“A leak of this stature”?!?! I think that’s a tell. “Stature” has a positive connotation. He could have used “magnitude,” or “level of treachery” or something.

Nobody wants to hear from you right now, discobot. We’re already in a foul mood.

Hi!

A bald-faced refusal to answer the question, supported by unactionable homilies, is not actually a lie. It’s just an evasion, which the Senate consented to and confirmed them all anyway. KBJ did exactly the same thing.

So Roberts is all-powerful and can ignore the public will. So is McConnell. So is Trump.

Republicans are for small government — a government of precisely three people. Good luck.

1 / Appalling is a word often used to describe the Roberts’ SC. Future history books will use it, too.
2 / Let’s please notice how unconcerned Roberts is with the G&C Thomas Conflict Show.
3 / Gore v. Bush as Judicial Putsch.
4 / >70% of the voting public wants legal abortion. Apparently only 66% of the SC doesn’t. Why do they hate Democracy?
5 / Ending Federal Voting Rights Legislation (2013) was rightwing agitprop and malfeasance.

“It’s unclear where Roberts will ultimately land in the case, that the chief justice did not want to dismantle Roe entirely.”

Lies. He knows exactly what he wants to do. Maybe the leak was intended as a trial balloon to gauge reaction (not that they care). In the end, they may scale back the harshness of Alito’s opinion but still leave Roe a hollowed out husk. Then they can try and look reasonable.

This is about control not a concern for life. If they cared about life there would be 20 Sandy Hook students starting High School.

Okay, so when is the shipment of kangaroos due at the GQPSCOTUS?

When a bandage is torn off it hurts and bleeds.

But we got a peek under that bandage in Bush v. Gore and it was pretty nasty under there and certainly nothing has gotten better in that domain since. I occasionally still ponder how different things might have been had the SCOTUS not interfered in 2000: no Iraq war, two decades of US climate change leadership, etc. [sigh]

The right wing, including its infantile hero, Donald J. Trump, including past power hungry politicians, have for years blown away the guard rails of the rule of law, fidelity to the Constitution, ethics, morals, common sense, and now this leak is merely “foolish?” I am still uncertain if there was an actual law broken by this, but nevertheless, Chief Justice Roberts is “a little late to the garden party.” Why didn’t he, in some way, call out (or take some action on) the grotesque conflicts of interest of Justice Thomas and his cuckoo, insurrectionist wife? I am confused…

Roberts thinks he knows the minds of the other justices. Even if he spoke to them, they lie readily.

Shorter Chief Justice: This leak will make no difference in our work. Quick! Get the bastard before he does it again. It’s an outrage.
