Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), vice chair of the Jan. 6 select committee, on Tuesday reiterated that the panel is prepared to advance criminal contempt charges against those who refuse to comply with its subpoenas.
Seems to me Thompson, Schiff, Cheney, and Kinzinger are all sending really really concrete and consistent messages to those about-to-be-in-contempt indictees-in-waiting.
Well, I’ll be, Liz isn’t mincing words. Among some of the very, very few Repubs stepping up to speak the truth, she may be a candidate for the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. Time will tell, now we need to see ACTION following the words.
“Though the Select Committee welcomes good-faith engagement with witnesses seeking to cooperate with our investigation, we will not allow any witness to defy a lawful subpoena or attempt to run out the clock, and we will swiftly consider advancing a criminal contempt of Congress referral,” the committee chairs wrote.
Damn when a turncoat has your playbook, whatcha gonna do now Trumpers?
BFD. They’ve been in contempt since 2016. I suppose there is an order to things, but unless/until this is enforced with penalties such as jail time, don’t expect anyone to beat a path to your conference room.
That said, I hope they do begin putting some teeth behind their idle threats, beginning with Bannon.
