Cheney Reiterates Jan. 6 Panel’s Threat Of Criminal Contempt For Uncooperative Trump Administration Witnesses | Talking Points Memo

Get things moving and throw the weight of the law at them. Then pull all levers and make all appeals to expedite any ensuring court hearings. Stop the lawyerly, bill by the hour crap, and do it.

Enough threats just do.

No one will go to jail for defying this committee. And any detention will be temporary and short lived, limited to a matter of hours or less. No one takes Democrats seriously. “Ruthless” and “Merciless” are not in their quiver.

Are you referring to hers or yours?

Yep. These guys/gals are serious. They understand the moment. My question is, if the seditionists show, would they just plead the 5th and if so, then what?

They’ve already wasted a week threatening to do something. When they get around to filing criminal contempt DOJ isn’t likely to act fast either. Then the Trumpers will sue, taking up even more time. I’m very disappointed in this committee.

no No No! Issue a contempt of Congress. Once Merrick Garland gets it he’s going top slow walk it just like he has with Jan 6th defendants. More than likely he will refuse to charge Bannon because it is more important not to further divide Amerika. Contempt of Congress or just go home.

Then the messaging becomes, ok, what crime are they pleading the 5th for? Who are they protecting besides themselves?

They cannot act until the deadline has passed, which it has not. They are signaling what they will do with those who don’t comply. Good grief.

Proffer immunity and negate the 5th pleading. No one cares about exacting justice against Bannon, Scavino, Meadows or Patel. Or any other bit players in the insurrection. Get at the facts that will hang Trump. Keep your eyes on the prize.

Excuse me, but the hearings were scheduled for Oct 14 and 15 several weeks ago. That’s how it works. So what is being “wasted”?

Then they don’t have to testify, and the Committee can just infer that their testimony would have been inculpatory.

We’re all prepared for you to do that and are impatiently waiting for you to do it. Remember Susan McDougal!

I want the fat MFWWNBN most of all but these bastards attempted to subvert the transfer of power. They also belong in orange.

Mafia hitmen are offered deals if what they provide prosecutors leads to the charging and conviction of crime bosses. If murderers can cut deals then so can Bannon, Meadows, et al.

Well, Bannon’s lawyers’ comments are just words, words, words, too. Meaningless.

It’s all posturing until the date arrives for Bannon to appear for a deposition. If he sits for a deposition or appears before the committee, he will have blinked. If he doesn’t, then it’s time to issue the contempt citation.

Can’t issue a contempt citation for not appearing until he doesn’t appear.

Patience padawans. You can’t arrest someone for contempt before they skip the hearing. Let’s see how this plays out.

Bannon’s lawyer told the committee that his client will defy its subpoena…

Presume Bannon guilty.

Not just for Jan. 6 matters, but, pretty much across the board for most everything he’s been engaged in for the past 5 to 10 years.

5 to 10 years - kinda has a nice ring to it.
