Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) bucked the vast majority of her party in pushing back against ex-President Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election — but you’d be mistaken in thinking that means she’s spurning the GOP’s anti-democracy efforts as a whole.
She is still all in on the GOP’s voter suppression efforts, just not outright insurrection and utter overt destruction of democracy; she’s fine with that destruction using less obvious means. It’s a shame, really.
“I think everybody should want a situation and a system where people who ought to be able to vote and have the right to vote can vote and people who don’t shouldn’t,” she said.
She has a point. 42 million people voted illegally in 2020, including 1.75 million dead people, and 537,00 Iranians cast ballots from Tehran.
This is so messed up on several different fronts.
Liz is still a Republican, she’s hasn’t totally left Republican mentality.
And I feel like a harpy because I keep asking why do Republicans, now all on the spectrum, forget that we had a pandemic, we were still in a pandemic when 11/03 came around.
Voting is controlled by County BOE and in most cases each state’s Sec of State. Ultimate farce of Liz or any other Republican “concerned” about voting and allowing people to vote is what happened in PA. The state legislature made some changes, add a provision that nothing could be changed 60 days after the law became law. And then the Republicans in the legislature wanted to change things well after the 60 day limit. The changes that were made came from them, the provision came from them, and yet the Democratic PA politicians are to blame.
Well, she’s a Republican! She didn’t stop being a Republican just because she’s against overthrowing our democracy. That’s why it’s so ridiculous when people say she should switch to being a Democrat. She’s not and will never be a Democrat. Plus, don’t we have enough drama with Manchin right now? Why would we want some version of that in the House too?
OT… This guy Gordon Sondland is a serious idiot, he was taken for a ride by Trump big time, paid 1 million for the ambassadorship, and all he got was another 1.8 in lawyers fees… pretty bad return on investment…
Nothing surprising here: she’s with the general program of reactionary states chosing their own voters so they remain states under reactionary control.
She didn’t leave the party, after all, and that’s one of it’s cornerstone policies.
By the same token, it’s kinda nice to have a slow news day rather than waking up to some demented asshole filling the space with his ravings.
Shh we’re not suppose to point out that this is boilerplate language being used. Hell every Republican politician must wake up each and every morning and check their phones for the daily reminder that these are our talking points. And if you can’t support them, or they don’t apply in your state, then just keep your mouth shut.
