The Census Bureau was not involved in the creation of a new Trump policy that will allow the 2020 count to be used to boost the electoral advantage of white rural voters, according to the Wednesday testimony of its top official.
More threats thrown out for the cult. It will not come to pass and will be forgotten in the mishmash of RW throw it at the wall and see if it sticks legal moves.
Once again, this policy is clearly unconstitutional. The text is sometimes ambiguous; to my (non-lawyer) mind, it specifies counting “persons.” Not citizens. Not aliens. Persons. I also continue to wonder how the Census Bureau will be able to determine a respondent’s citizenship status. More BS from Dolt 45.
Exactly. They frighten the undocumented into not filling out the census and boom, they won. That is one reason Newsom, here in CA, fights Trump every inch of the way.
Someone needs to remind this clueless dipshit that there were people named Garcia, Sanchez, and Martinez living in what is now Texas for a couple of centuries before his lily-white and no doubt starving ancestors struggled off the boat in America.
Oh, and this from a historian: “Of the estimated 189 men who died in the Alamo, only six were actually born in Texas: Juan Abamillo, Juan A. Badillo, Carlos Espalier, Gregorio Esparza, Antonio Fuentes, and Andrés Nava.”
What he really should be saying is, “When they came for the immigrants, I said nothing, since I’m not an immigrant…”
Because remaining silent, doing and saying nothing when facing active fascism, is just as bad or worse than “having nothing to do with it”… especially given his position as the caretaker of our shared political future.
I think it’s high time Congress made it illegal for lawmakers at any level to “delete tweets” while in office.
If they are going to use them for political purpose and/or in the course of their elected duties, then those tweets need to be kept as part of the ‘official record’.
For that matter, can we please get some enforcement around Trump’s use of the delete function on Twitter? FFS, have we just thrown the whole ‘presidential records’ thing out the window with this guy?
Oh, right. I guess Bill Barr would be the one to enforce that… Well, isn’t that special.
I was hired a few weeks ago as a field supervisor for the census. I had actually been “hired” early this year, bur COVID 19 bumped everything back. Then I found out a few weeks ago that being “hired” didn’t mean I’d actually get a job–it’s all assigned by computer depending on how many people they need, etc. Of course I had heard none of this before. I expressed my disappointment in a professional way, and actually got hired a few hours later since my manager needed people.
It’s the end of the third week and I think I’m going to resign. I won’t bore anyone with the details except to say the entire thing, from bottom to top, is a complete Shitshow with a capital S. It’s all been backed up so much and they’ve had so much trouble recruiting enumerators (the people who go door-to-door) that we supervisors have now been told we’ve got to get out and start knocking on doors ourselves. I knew there would be some of this in the supervisor’s job, but I’m not interesting in doing both that and the enumerator’s job.
I feel disgusted and angry. What a massive wreck. It takes the government to create something this screwed up.
This should not surprise anyone…the staff at the Census is really good and dedicated to their jobs, but the Census can be interfered with by an administration that wants to get a partisan advantage. It may take a whistleblower or IG investigation to find all of the things they tried to do, and it may be bad enough that a correction or extra counting is required in 2021.
You can bet Republicans will sue over that, or if Biden overturns all of this interference, because it actually will harm their future prospects…the fact that they are cheating to increase those future prospects is the entire point of what they are doing.
Speaker Pelosi should just declare the 2020 Census a complete and utter failure and state unequivocally that the House will NOT use it and will instead: A) develop their own census database from academic sources for the 2021 Apportionment, and B) commission a new Federal Census to be conducted and supervised by the House in 2021 to update the Apportionment in 2022 prior to the first mid-term Federal Election.
