My memory is it was largely the left that embraced Andrew Wakefield’s bogus studies back in the 90s (supposedly showing a link between the MMR vaccine and autism) and started the whole anti-vax movement in the US - although the seeds are always there and have been from the first small pox vaccine. I find lefties are much more likely to embrace things that are “natural” and “organic”.
I don’t think the right wing went crazy with it until COVID.

There’s plenty of well and septic people who see the problems with the way things are going. Some lean left others to the right, but they all are people who understand that when it comes to Musk, he’s the fox in the hen house.
I was speaking with my “neighbor” (acres of separation make good neighbors) who recognizes that Musk is taking a hammer to the regulators who had him in their sights. The neighbor doesn’t agree with all the regulators but isn’t excited about his dad’s Medicaid and VA benefits potentially facing issues, nor his daughter’s job being on the block because of cut government funding.
Keep pointing out all that graft, the lack of savings, and the harm to their family and friends. You might not change their minds about the role of government but you can show them how this hurts them, which is when conservatives start to care.

Yes, I met quite a few lefty-antis when I was living in a Camphill community in Northern Ireland. Vivid memory of the staff child who developed a seizure disorder post-whooping cough, and noted with great annoyance how she was never mentioned, but the child who had suffered brain damage after a reaction to a smallpox vaccine was, every time the issue came up.
