“The very, very clear and repeatedly documented fact that Ms. Raskin has advocated using the supervisory powers of the Fed as a mechanism to allocate capital away from carbon intensive industries — in my view, that’s a reason to vote against her; that is disqualifying,” Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), ranking member on the committee who is leading the boycott, told reporters.
“The President’s nominee, Sarah Bloom Raskin, has pressured the Fed to stop being a regulator and become a left-wing activist body,” added Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) from the floor Tuesday morning.
Can she actually do what they claim she will do, if confirmed? Or is this just another in-your-face ‘Brandon’ from the GQP?

Just like with covid the fascist cult belligerantly assumes a stance of ‘fuck humanity’ we will not be inconvenienced and you can’t make us do the right thing.
Their ongoing tantrum and unwillingness to even admit there’s a problem (covid, climate change, etc.) in the face of overwhelming evidence will be the death of us all.

The US, despite being a technology-creator, has been a foot-dragger on switching to greener technologies. Already in 2020 the EU satisfied nearly 20% of its total energy consumption with wind, solar and hydro, more than double that of the US (8%). Typically, such transitions (e.g. b/w tv to color tv) follow a hockey-stick adoption. Most recently we’ve seen this in digitization. Europe is way ahead of the US, even though it’s based on tech we created. That said, the Fed has three jobs: keep inflation reasonable, keep the external value of the currency stable, and strive for “optimal” employment with the given labor force. Not transitioning is crazy. The US has greater resource endowments than Europe, so it doesn’t feel the pressure to transition as in Europe. Maybe we need top policy people who can state the obvious.
