Not clear on something:

Is this NEW jobless claims or overall jobless claims?

I think I’m missing out here. I thought there were far more unemployed as a result of the shutdown than 4 million +/-

These appear to be NEW claims…

Ok - that’s the part I was missing - can the headline be updated to include the word new? That makes it a little clearer.

And maybe include what the total is with these new claims, if that’s available?

last week’s claims data would bring the cumulative unemployment benefits claims to roughly 26.2 million since the week ending March 21, representing about 16% of the labor force. The economy created 22 million jobs during the employment boom which started in September 2010 and abruptly ended in February this year.

These are new claims to add to the previous claims…so now we’re at over 26 million in a few weeks as a result of tRump doing nothing to contain this virus early on and still unwilling to do anything going forward. He thinks the economy comes first.

Like my grandmother used to say, “without your health, you got nothin’.” So without healthy people unafraid to go out and carry out their jobs in the workforce, the economy will continue to go to shit. Time for people to tune out tRump and listen to the scientists. Health comes first. Simple as that.

If only we’d done what several other countries have done, have the government take over payrolls of those whose businesses are closed or significantly impacted. Pay people 80% of salary and keep the health insurance and they are ready to go back as soon as the business re-opens.

You mean instead of bailing out the airlines and other corporations??

Horrors - wash your mouth out with soap.

ETA: pure and unadulterated socialism and that’s not what America is made of!!! Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and don’t expect the government to take care of you - we don’t have a nanny State… [/s]

Trump is the dog in a round house looking for a corner to pee in. Plus he has the patience of a toddler. This new report will surely motivate him to tell Birx and Fauci they’re granting tacit approval to the lifting of most mitigation efforts, or else they’re being disappeared. Literally.

Hey, they’re ain’t no Chinamen coming into the country. Props for that!!

How about we just have Congress legislate and claw back the stupid legislation MoscowMitch and the tRump-owned GOP gave millionaires and billionaires in tax breaks and make them give back those ill-gotten gains they never deserved in the first damn place?

Ah, but Trump said he wanted no oversight and wanted to give the money to whomever he wanted, including apparently his own hotel chain.

So who’s going to stop him? Barr? SCOTUS?? It’s to laugh.

Except 40,000 came anyway after he ordered no one allowed in from China.

Cue the screams of socialism - they did it in FDR’s time, but that was before Faux Noise, where the megaphone would be louder.

Ever notice how Faux hasn’t had any kind of campaign about turning back those socialist checks for $1200 that are currently being distributed? I guess socialism is good, in some instances…
