Nah. Pretty sure he got that from my grandmother.

So much winning. I’m getting tired of all the winning.

Give back money? Girl, at what stop did you get off the train? No one gives back money in a rigged capitalist economy - not for any reason. You’re trying to screw everything up, obviously. /s

Wondering if an EO by a state governor ‘reopening’ their state affects the status of UI claims?
Everything Rs try to pull is superficial-- rarely any depth.
There’s GOT to be causation/effect at play for this round of economic kabuki.

Take that Obama… you can’t hold a candle to tRump when it comes to job losses

EXACTLY, it’s corporations, CEOs and stock holders that matter in this country… screw the people

I think that’s the whole point in a bunch of states: “open” the state, and then you can take away workers’ UI or force them to work and die. Win, win, win!

That’s what this Georgian op-ed proffers. I got the link from an article at DailyKos yesterday. It certainly seems reasonable to assume this is why Kemp is doing what he’s doing. Though it looks like simple shortsightedness on his part, there actually could be much more malevolence at work with his order to open things back up. In fact, it could actually be all about GA’s UI in truth.

Followed by the Rethugliklan chorus singing “more tax cuts for the ‘job creators.’”

Some states will have less unemployment than others due to a combination of the brilliant leadership of their Guardians Of Pallbearers governors and essential manufacturing operations.

Fun Fact: Batesville Casket Company manufactures caskets and cremation urns. The company operates 4 manufacturing plants in Batesville, Indiana, Chihuahua, Mexico, Manchester, Tennessee, and Vicksburg, Mississippi.

McConnell has chosen this time to say no more relief bills. I would never hope for someone to get sick and die, but if McConnell gets COVID, he will be the absolutely last soul on my list of people I am hoping recover swiftly. He is a once-in-a-lifetime asshole and he has given more wealth away to people who don’t need it and taken more away from people who are desperate than anyone I can think of, and that includes Reagan Suddenly, after the trillion dollar tax giveaway and the multi-trillion dollar relief package for giant corporations, it is all about the deficit and"our children’s future" again.

OK, I’m lying. I do hope he gets sick and dies.

The term for this is “initial” jobless claims, meaning an application for the start of a period of unemployment after a layoff. There’s a separate figure for continuing jobless claims, which is the total of people drawing unemployment benefits for the week. That figure is probably more like 30 million including the people drawing unemployment prior to the COVID-19 meltdown.

Yup, the original article, before the edit, didn’t make the distinction. It does now. I’m good.

I will keep repeating this until some the (expletive deleted) Rethugs get it through their heads that there’s NO OTHER CHOICE:

We need a 21stC WPA/CCC. If we could build the Hoover Dam during the first Depression, we can do a similar project now. Or, better still, a series of smaller projects across the country. Not one to usually disparage my own party, this is the one area that I would say the Democrats are falling behind on. They simply must get out there and blanket the airwaves on this idea.

ETA: And if the Federal gov’t. won’t do it, then this country needs to be broken up and the Federal entity dissolved because the money the Eastern Federation of States is sending to DC could be put to better use here.

Socialism, that is only available for the likes of GE, Exxon/Mobil, Boeing, the cruise and airline industries, real estate empires, etc, etc, the little man is not wanted nor is included.

We need an addition $1T tax reduction for those job creators…stat.

Initially I was one of many who thought, “Well, this will take out Trump. Good.” Still want Trump gone, but I’m wondering what’s going to be left by, say, June. A bunch of hotspots and a couple of federations of regional states trying to coordinate local strategy against rising civil unrest/despair. I am starting to think that Congress and the President may become even more glaringly irrelevant and we’ll get some new kind of hierarchy of governors to fill the void. Impeachment of the Pres and Senate (and House) after the fact. Like the states telling the feds, “You couldn’t do what you needed to [impeach the mofo, prepare for pandemic, prevent our bankruptcies], we’re outta here.”

You’ve first got to get the money… no one in my family has yet to see a penny. The IRS website still says does not have any information on file, however, 2019 refunds have arrived.

Instead of that flight of fancy, how about Dems just get off their asses and vote in all elections? If we do that, the problem is solved.

I do agree that a new WPA/CCC would be a great idea.

We start the day at 857k corona virus cases and 48,071 fatalities. We will reach 50,000 fatalities by tonight or tomorrow morning. We will also reach 900k cases by the weekend (probably by tomorrow). We’re on pace to reach 1 million cases and 60,000 casualties by May 1. By the middle to the end of May if one assumes a 1 million caseload volume by May 1 or thereabouts, our overall fatalities will range between 86k and 112k. That could trend higher as more excess fatalities are added to the counts. In addition, a much higher percentage of cases since April 1 are from suburban and rural areas and non initial hot spot states. Given that the quality of medical care and the attentiveness of Govs and local officials is not at the level of Govs like Cuomo, Inslee, Newsom, we could see a spike in the fatality rate that would increase the overall number.

My son got his check direct deposited last week. It will come although with Mnuchin in charge it’ll probably be intentionally bungled a few times before it gets to the people that need it most. He’ll undoubtably put tRump’s cronies first on the list.

Came across this article yesterday. It seems to lay out a timeline for when some people can anticipate seeing those checks (don’t know how accurate this is though):
