Boulder Shooting Hangs Over Senate Hearing On Gun Violence | Talking Points Memo

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday morning is holding the first in a series of hearings aimed at mitigating gun violence. The hearing was scheduled before a gunman opened fire in a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, on Monday that left at least 10 people dead, including a police officer, according to authorities.

The timing of this hearing is epic (although no one would’ve suspect a 10-death shooting the evening before the hearing).

Unfortunately, the GQP Senators will be unmoved, as they always are. Beholden to the NRA and other gun rights groups for funding will eliminate the possibility of an open mind to anything said in the hearing. Let the pontificating about the sanctity of 2A over constituents’ lives begin.

This country doesn’t give a damn about over half a million COVID deaths, so how are 10 deaths in a mass shooting “hanging over” the Senate?

No it’s not s much those groups, but the republican voter base, and probably with the larger American public. I don’t think you can get a solid majority of Americans to agree in any significant gun control. Those “background checks” are useless, so are “waiting periods”, the country is already drowning in guns, if a gun shop doesn’t wan to sell you, you can try a private seller, chances are you can buy a high capacity gun right away. What this country needs is disarmament, start by banning high capacity semi-automatic pistols and rifles.

No need to shout the obvious.

Ron Johnson will probably get in trouble for saying it, but it’s not white people with guns we have to fear, it’s black people with guns. Just sayin’…He’s just sayin’ that. He is.

I’m sure Empty Greene or Alex Jones will soon tell us the timing was, you know, a little too convenient.

Swap “Republicans” for “this country”, and you’re 100% correct

Clearly, brown people and liberals saying “defund the police” is waaaaay more of a problem then white men actually killing police officers.

“In a Twitter post this Tuesday the group said that in the wake of the shooting, now is not the time to discuss gun control and warned against “emotional sensationalism” in regards the mass shooting that left 10 people dead, including a police officer.”

Similarly, if you happen upon a severely lacerated victim of an auto accident, now would not be the time to review the correct application of a tourniquet.

I’m sure it was “friendly fire.”

Come on! It’s only reasonable to study tourniquets when no one wants to study tourniquets. And then it’s best to put it off for lack of relevance.

Any America that lets its well regulated militia run around and kill people because of mental illness or vengance or any other personal motivation is not my America. We strive to be a more perfect union, and that includes putting regulation into a well regulated militia.
