Former National Security Adviser John Bolton ripped President Trump in an interview with ABC News about his tell-all memoir that provides an account of his 17 month stint working in the Trump White House, saying the president was unfit for office and had made reelection his sole focus.
And again, it’s worth pointing out that Bolton could maybe have expedited Trump’s removal by agreeing to testify at the impeachment trial instead of teasing his book.
The Times review of Bolton’s book said it was by turns tedious and unhinged, and just generally poorly written. I think it would be interesting to read just to get a better idea of how well or poorly Bolton’s mind actually operates. So many politicians (Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell) have reputations for being a genius, a wonk, or having some special skill that does not hold up well under examination.
That much was obvious before he was elected president, and it had already been confirmed before Bolton agreed to go to work for him. Why the disappointment? Would not be more honest for Bolton to say, yeah I knew he was clown, but I though I could manipulate him into doing the neo-con biding. And no John Bolton cannot claim he took the job out of sense of duty towards the country.
At one point, Bolton says he learned that Kushner was going to be calling the finance minister of Turkey because he was also Erdogan’s son-in-law.
“I briefed Pompeo and Mnuchin on this new ‘son-in-law channel’ and they both exploded. Pompeo was furious, Bolton writes, “because this was one more example of Kushner’s doing international negotiations he shouldn’t have been doing (along with the never quite ready Middle East peace plan).”
Him? A cat person? I’m a cat person and I can tell you no self-respecting cat would consent to be in the same room with him. They’re excellent judges of character, most of them, and they’d pick up on the inner violence and desire to cause pain.
