The CDC and the NIH are controlled by the executive branch. Trump didn’t like what they were saying when they held their own press briefings so he butted in. Then he took over once he realized that the virus was preventing him from holding rallies.
We’ve got to keep in mind that ETTD, and that means agencies, reputations, and now literally people’s lives.

Don’t be fooled by the grandmotherly demeanor and whimsical scarf collection. Administration officials say they’ve been taken aback by Deborah Birx’s masterful political skills — including a preternatural ability to get what she wants while telling people what they want to hear.
Why it matters: She’s better than any of the other public health officials at talking to Trump. While MAGA-land has spent weeks trying to get Anthony Fauci fired, Birx has been far more adept at influencing the president and shaping the administration’s response to the global coronavirus pandemic.

What I find amazing is that this question should have been anticipated and the response gamed out in detail. That apparently did not happen or if it did they settled on a response that was just plain weak… The resulting noise from the chatter that now fills this news vacuum can’t help but overpower whatever message Birx was trying to get out. She would have been better off just staying home.

The way the virus has ravaged nursing home populations has, I think, at least somewhat inflated the perceived threat to seniors. And what Birx is repeating here is really old news. Who the virus kills and how the virus kills them keeps changing. She’s talking like it’s still early March, as if nobody’s seen anything different in between then and now.
In Brazil right now 15% of the deaths are among people below 50.
But the administration is blissfully unaware of not only who the virus has the potential to kill, but where the virus is gearing up to do it. And all the nonsense about staying safe protocols that Birx spouts is just a sop.
It boggles my mind that they actually think they can win at this game – fool the country into shopping, eating out and booking vacations at Virginia Beach – and not pay the price. It boggles my mind that they actually think they can trick the virus into helping them boost the economy so the freak can have something to campaign on. The only thing he ever had to campaign on, and it was a lie even back when.
It’s all just nuts.

For sometime now I believe that bots, trolls and other assorted asshats truly are pushing back against asymptomatic spreaders. And I feel it’s related to Calvinist theology and predestination. Which is strange because most Republicans and others proclaim that they have asked God for forgiveness for the sins, hurt to others, poor judgement, and so forth, and that God will still magical rapture them up to heaven. As opposed to God’s plan for them was to be the cheat, thief, or commit whatever sin they committed. All thanks to the Silent Moral Majority.

I go back to polling.
Stupid people are still polling for Trump. I do not believe that only 52% of voters Disapprove of Trump.
There is a segment of people who could get Nate Silver’s numbers to 61/33 Disapprove/Approve.
The actions of both Trump and the GOP tell me that the Trump Coup is not a done deal. So when someone asks a polling question, tell 'em you Disapprove of the motherfucker.
Never forget that Trump did not refrain from referring to polling at any time during 2016
