Biden Won’t Let Trump Hog The Whole Spotlight During His RNC Speech | Talking Points Memo

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign plans to air its own counter-programming Thursday night to coincide with President Trump’s acceptance speech on the last night of the Republican National Convention.

Biden is too old to golf 36 holes every weekend of the year.

Should be quite a contrast

Nicely done!

That was really good but I find it hard to believe that anyone not in the Trump cult could want him to continue as President.

Biden should agree to debate Trump only with both candidates standing on a ramp.

While the “Biden campaign’s laissez-faire, ‘let Trump be Trump’ approach has worked like gangbusters so far,” Bannon said, “it’s time to take off the gloves and be more aggressive.” “The NFL season starts in 15 days and it’s time for Biden to get out of his prevent defense and start blitzing Trump,” Bannon said. “It’s time for Biden to remind moderate independents that the main course at the GOP convention is just red meat for right-wingers.” (The Hill 08/27/2020)

Not to be confused with: “Prevent defenses prevent wins.”

Take no prisoners, Joe.

I know I’ll get hate for writing this, but I’m sick of hearing about Joe’s family losses from the early 1970s. JFC Joe, it’s been nearly 50 years and you bring this up all the time. At nearly every opportunity. There are many people who suffered bigger losses Joe, I know a few of them. They just don’t talk about it. You’re like Rudy and his 9/11. A noun, a verb, and a car accident. Climb off of those headstones Joe.

His son’s death was not 50 years ago…

He brought up the 70s accident first.

Trump is very good at hogging. Swine usually are.

Biden is bringing this up to make the connection that he understands what it feels like to lose a close family member suddenly. That’s important right now, because so many Americans are in the same situation. Trump has nothing comparable in his history, and he doesn’t have empathy anyways.

Biden is using this appropriately, it’s part of his story, a very important part, and it informs why he wants people to have health care and the nation to get past the pandemic. It only seems more prominent because of media coverage…we’re still getting far more coverage of Trump than Biden despite the things Biden is doing (like the press conference he and Harris had a few days ago that was barely covered).

Fair to say he’s not telling the story for your (or my, or most of our) benefit, since you’re already going to vote for him. The key to getting through to people is to repeat yourself. Repeatedly.

ETA: I’d like to see Trump try to show some human emotion based on any loss he’s ever experienced. “My brothers are dead… what?”

Yeah, and PT-109 was such a rock around JFK’s neck. Sometimes life events, no matter how long ago, form a core part of your philosophy.

It’s worthwhile to continue contrasting empathy built on loss vs inhumanity built on no accountability or loss ever.

“…and accuse him of lacking mental acuity.”

Seriously, all he needs to do -in ads and in the debates- is to say something like, “This is a man who doesn’t even understand how tariffs work. How can someone this clueless say he is fit to manage an entire country’s economy?”

Treadmills. During the debate they should both be on treadmills, running at their slowest settings.

He does not have to remind us over and over and over.
And it’s not the same. When you lose someone to covid-19 you don’t get to have the same grieving process Joe had with his family members.

I would love someone asking at the (still hypothetical) Biden/Dumpster debates “Can you share with us a time when you personally helped someone who wasn’t already rich, famous, or a family member, in private, without any publicity?”

That’s a good one. How about “tell us about what you learned from your multiple bankruptcies”.
