Biden To Trump Refusing Peaceful Power Transition: ‘What Country Are We In?’ | Talking Points Memo

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden late Wednesday pushed back on President Donald Trump’s remarks that suggested he would not commit to a peaceful transition of power if he lost the November presidential election.

I’ve been wondering what country we’re in for quite a while now.
I’m glad Biden said it, but not happy he needed to.

I think this is the right way to handle Donnie’s provocations: dismissively. There’s no profit in amplifying his outrages and giving him the steering wheel.
At the same time, however, preparations have to be quietly taken for what he may actually do.

“What country are we in?” Biden asked

We’re in a country where roughly half the adult populace is OK living under despotic authoritarian rule by a bunch of racists, xenophobes, homophobes and misogynists.

That is all.

I don’t think is is “half”, but there are a lot more ‘Deplorables’ than I realized! Something has got to be done about Fox News. It has effectively created a 'Matrix that millions of people have decided to live in. A democracy can work where people have deep disagreements, but not where huge swaths of them do not even agree on facts.

OT. How does this cowardly @$$hole tries to lecture us about protecting the free world, when he stood by making up justifications for Trump giving classified to the Russian. If he wants to write something h can go back to his book “Dereliction of Duty” and a chapter about his shameful stint as NSA.

We are in a country presided over by a corrupt and desperate President … so compromised and dependant upon gaining “reelection” ( or more to the point - not relinquishing power) … that he has chosen this hill to die on … he is going to test the limits of what he can get away with - he will take this to the very edge … not because he is couragous - but because he is desperate and has an insatiable ego.

How can my ballot be a disaster donald? My county recorder’s office hasn’t mailed them out yet. They don’t get mailed to us until Oct 7th. This “disaster” you speak of hasn’t happened yet and you speak in past tense.

There is no “edge” for trump.
Sad to say

There’s nothing to be “done about” Fox News. The 1st Amendment protects them. We have 100 million obese people in the country, because they’re free to consume whatever food they want, as much of it as they want. The same goes for speech. Neither Coke or Fox are good for you, but no one is going to do anything about either of them, regardless the damage they do to an individual.

I agree.
Another thing here… trump said yesterday “ballots are a disaster” and that they should be gotten rid of. Well, not all mail in ballots are from democrats. It’s just people trying to avoid getting sick. By dumping ballots trump will be disenfranchising (check my shitty spelling) republicans!! He will be saying the votes of his cultish base are a hoax, a disaster, fake. Now, that should by rights insult everyone to be told 'I don’t want your fake vote".

I’d like to see more advertisers finally stop funding this nonsense. Is anyone of note (other than gold and survival advertisers) even on this channel anymore.

@darrtown I still say someone should ask him if he plans to vote absentee as he has for the last who knows how long? Also the military - ask him about that too.

Heh, trump is not known for his deep thinking or what collateral political damage he may do to himself.
My brother-in-law is career Army and a GOPer. He’s a smart guy and fun to debate. He’s no nutball. But he will get seriously pissed if told his mail in ballot is fake or a disaster.

With respect, I believe it’s not ego as much as abject fear. I wish people would talk about this more: what he is facing in SDNY, why, and how it’s motivating him to start a civil war if necessary.

I would enjoy seeing “private citizen donald j trump” sentenced to a term in the “House of Many Doors” by SDNY

Somehow they consistently post respectable quarterly earnings. Being rated #1 in nightly viewers helps I suppose, buy they’re caught in a vise. Tone down the coverage and they might attract more mainstream advertisers, but the ad rates would be lower due to smaller viewership. They surely have other revenue streams not related to ad buys.

I suspect when Trump loses and the Trumps buy OAN, as has been suggested, Fox will lose its edge.

‘What Country Are We In?’

From the Republican Perspective it is most likely Dumbtrumpistan… They’ve been working for years to get there, and this is likely their final push… We MUST make sure they FAIL
