President-elect Joe Biden is slated to receive his first presidential daily briefing on Monday, his transition team announced on Sunday night.
To state the obvious …
A president getting daily intel briefings - that’s something we haven’t seen since 01/20/2017.
Especially ones that are actually daily - and that are not just in pictures and a very few 8-word bullet points.
We’re getting there. The process is finally happening in a somewhat normal manner and it is accelerating. I am thankful to be alive to watch it unfold. I am under no illusions about the obstructions the GOP Senate will throw up. Still good to see Biden/Harris taking charge.
Now the President-Elect will really see what kind of shit show Trump has produced.
Hey, there will now be one person in the US actually listening and reading the daily presidential intelligence briefing. And possibly asking a pertinent question other than “Can I nuke Iran?” “Why are my generals cowardly losers?” and “Why haven’t you gotten Obama’s Kenyan birth certificate yet?”
I am wondering if his briefing has been Trumpified, or if it has a bunch of redactions because it mentions so many of Trump’s people in it.
So Biden gets his in ink while Con Don still prefers crayon and etch-a-sketch?
We’ll see how shaken and pale Biden and Harris look afterwards. Trump hasn’t paid attention to any of this stuff for years – there’s probably some major scary shit in there that he’s never addressed. The Russian bounties thing was probably just the tip of the iceberg.
A barrier falls
The grownups are in the house
The fat lady sings
How they finesse telling Putin he’s no longer in charge of the State Department will be interesting.
Finally they’re being received by a person who can comprehend them and care about their import. We have some weeks yet before we’re home and dry, but it’s been a scary four years. I wouldn’t trust our current national security team to feed my goldfish.
I wonder if for kicks they’ll show Biden the coloring-book version of the PDB they’ve been producing for Trump all these years.
Now we’ll see what constraints Soon-to-be-ex-President Trump and his minions have placed on US foreign policy. See:
The reality is that we now need to develop a real policy. But I suppose he already knows this as President-elect Biden (see Republicans, you don’t burst into flames by saying it) and his team are experienced and have access to real expert-based intelligence.
Meanwhile, we are over 267,000 US fatalities from covid-19, with over 158,000 estimated to be due to Trump’s choice to ignore it for political reasons. The man will burn for this in the annals of history.
And Joe will probably do more about the information received in this first briefing than Trump has done in four years of receiving these briefings.
At least, when Trump was still receiving them.
I worry about Biden/Harris being around all these people that may not be practicing Covid safety. Wish they could do this all remotely just to help keep them safe for the inauguration and after. The last thing we need is them getting sick.
Biden: “Why does every paragraph have the president’s name in it at least three times?”
Harris is on the Senate committee and has still been getting the info since her nomination for Veep. My guess is she’s aware on some level of what they will be told.
Except about the part that, as of 1 February, the country has been sold to the highest bidder.
I don’t think he goes anywhere near the White House for this. I imagine some sort of courier brings the materials???
Zoom? Skype? Some other on line session?
