Nope. That’s my intended subtext and I added a third paragraph to make that a little clearer. The man is predictable nigh unto robot-hood. Knowing that he will very likely not want to agree right off the bat and will feel compelled to win everything, including the transaction of negotiating how the debates will actually take place, taking away meaningless demands Mango would have made by proposing them yourself right at the start is a great way to back him into a corner and hand him rope. He will read it as weakness (and likely also become a bit suspicious/paranoid, wondering what the trap is but probably failing to identify it). As with any predatory sociopath, sensing weakness will only heighten his arousal and goad him into trying to exploit it more aggressively. Maybe the people around him will rein him in, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him demanding abject nonsense like both debates having to be hosted by Tucker Carlson, Newsmax and/or OAN.
To really make enough difference in the trial, I think the prosecutors would have to believe that the judge really would put Trump in jail at this stage.
I think that is a risky bet, the judge still likely would not. And the GOP now is on record in interfering with felony trials. If Trump is found guilty, this is a bad look for the elections.
So my take is, do not interfere with your enemy when they are making a mistake. And make no mistake, they, the arm of the GOP in control, have declared war on our justice system.
Trump’s silly surrogates are pulling this stunt solely for his base and any undecided voters they might reel in. These politicians’ mere appearance at the trial is meant to reinforce the point they verbalized for the cameras: this trial is a political witch hunt.
Rep. Carol Miller trounced Derrick Evans by almost 30 points, in the race to represent West Virginia’s first district. She will likely win the general election in November. The campaign has been viewed as something of a litmus test of how voters view the January 6 insurrection three years later.
In another month or two they’ll have to be directed about the next insult to use. The MAGAts are not very inventive. They will wait for prompts from their Nazi propagandist overlords.
^THIS. It would be one thing had they been smart enough to avoid any direct contact or the people involved conferring with him in some fashion, but if there’s a witness to him literally marking up their statements before they make them, this is contempt via an agency arrangement and ALL who were knowingly involved have committed contempt. ALL.
That was what really struck me. I don’t live in MD, but nothing I read told me that the race was beyond the margin of error. Instead, it was a damned landslide.
I can only hope the same is true this November for Biden … especially after reading another group of focus group idiots in the NYT.
