Missed in that Trump-surrogate story:
The fact that Trump is even using surrogates, means that his whole bluff of continuing to reject the judge’s gag order, to “look tough” to his followers was just that.

Trump gave up.
He’s looking weak to his followers now, and nothing his surrogates can say will fix that.

In my dreams, the 2024 Presidential Candidate Forums would be handled by the League of Women Voters. One of the state Leagues, like maybe Delaware or Florida; National is mainly a PR and fundraising organization now.
Failing that, let either PBS or NPR do it, with their own reporters asking the questions (perhaps even with League assistance), and League-like rules, which include:
- Limited time for replies, strictly enforced
- Only one gets to speak at a time, strictly enforced
- Each candidate answers the same questions
- No audience reaction tolerated
- No politically or personally slanted questions
I can see locking the Defendant into a soundproof lucite box (surely there are lots of these barriers still available, post-pandemic) and having an external person controlling the mic.
To look non-partisan, Biden would have to be enclosed as well.

trump is ordered not just to STFU himself, but also to STFU through anyone else speaking on his behalf. TMF admits his special guests are his surrogates and he approves their messages. And now we have eyewitnesses to him marking up their statements.

Bare foot, and naked, Trump is 275lbs and 6’-1"

Agree that the presidential debates have turned into an overproduced, glitzy media event, but totally devoid of meaningful content or results. The public already knows everything about the history and viewpoints of the candidates, so this would just be ad revenue gravy for the host network. No benefit to the electorate.
There will be some bluster, but trump will make excuses to avoid the debate.
