With the second presidential debate slated for next Thursday, Democratic candidate Joe Biden told reporters on Tuesday that there shouldn’t be any debates until President Donald Trump has recovered from COVID-19.
“I think if he still has COVID, we shouldn’t have a debate,” Biden said
Whatever the merits of this position, I don’t think Biden should have voiced it himself.
Yes, please. And definitely encase Harris in plexiglass during the VP debates. She can talk substance and Pence can whine about how COVID-19 isn’t a fatal, airborne disease.

Biden is going to be in a jam if Trump and his doctors assert he is “cured and cleared” but nevertheless refuses to submit for a COVID test and release the results to either Biden’s campaign reps or the debate commission. What then?

That may be what Joe wants, but because of HIPAA we won’t necessarily know Trump’s status.

Joe baited the Trump Campaign and they swallowed it immediately. Even while he’s a walking super-spreader, they’re saying the show must go on.

Biden is correct that they shouldn’t have an in-person debate if trump doesn’t meet the criteria to be out in public. Even though I would like to see the moderator cut trump’s mic when he won’t shut up.
Biden was also correct when he told trump to get off twitter last night. I’m OK with Biden telling the truth and trump looking like an idiot. It won’t change any minds but it may get out the vote. Getting out the vote is all that matters at this point.
Virtual debate or none at all. Nobody should have to be in the same room with a covid patient unless they’re medical professionals with the necessary PPE. Biden has nothing to prove and no reason to run that risk.

If the debate committee drug tests Trump, they’ll probably find so many performance and recreational drugs that they will send him directly to the NBA bubble. The man is not well and hasn’t been for all of his adult life.
The Trump camp’s obvious and tragically consequential cavalier attitude toward the pandemic is their greatest liability and Joe is smart to emphasize it. And I have to say your early support of him has proven justified and my doubts were not borne out. I doff my hat, sir. Glad to be wrong on this one.
My proposition was Trump’s doctors assert he’s fit and safe to be physically present at the debate, but refuse to divulge test results backing their green light. Now Trump has shifted the onus of the safety of his appearance away from him to his doctors. And a Biden refusal to appear has him essentially publicly accusing the doctors of deceit and/or lying. We’ve all seen Trump’s doctors perfectly willing to engage in disingenuous behavior in his service.
I’d love to see Pence publicly made to do the heavy physical caregiving and carry Trump’s spittoon at the debate.
If you’re suggesting that would put Biden in a difficult position I disagree. Why should Biden trust his personal safety and that of everyone else in the building to the word of obviously evasive doctors? Independent test or nope out.
