Now we are openly discussing physically removing the occupant of the White(s Only) House should said occupant lose reelection and refuse to leave the premises. This is where we are now.

Trump would have absolutely no standing to remain on the premises:

AMENDMENT XX

Passed by Congress March 2, 1932. Ratified January 23, 1933.

Note : Article I, section 4, of the Constitution was modified by section 2 of this amendment. In addition, a portion of the 12th amendment was superseded by section 3.

Section 1.
The terms of the President and the Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

This conversation gets so tedious. Occupying the White House does not make one President of the United States.

Transition under the Twentieth Amendment is not dependent on surrender of office. Section 1 says, “The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January,…” The winner of the Electoral College automatically becomes POTUS at noon EST on Jan 20. The sitting POTUS doesn’t have a role or an option of not stepping down.

Now if Trump tried to block the Electoral College from voting… The Twentieth Amendment says the Vice-President elect shall act as POTUS until it gets sorted by the incoming Congress* and not the previous Congress. The point is that if Trump is not re-elected, he’s out no matter how you slice it and his remaining is not an option available to him or his supporters

We know the first part of this is true: he’ll do anything he can to tilt the vote to him and away from Biden. But if he refuses to leave, I say empty out the WH, fence it in (I hope they kept the chain-link fencing), terminate the lease for the Trump Hotel in DC, move the Presidency there, and let Trump live in the place he called a “dump” with no staff, no Diet Coke, no WiFi, no hamberders, no nothing. Then nab him when he tries to escape.

Joe might be being a tad naive here. Its very possible that there are some who would support Donald. It doesn’t take a majority to stage that kind of thing, just a few well placed individuals.

It’s sad/scary that we even have to pose the question but, I agree with Biden the Military wouldn’t support a Coup in favor of Trump

I’m sorry, but I’m at a disadvantage. Where does Joe, himself, mention the military? Not in this article, it seems. “They” is doing a lot of work here.

I hope the Secret Service remembers that they swore an oath to the Constitution, not to any specific office or officeholder:

“I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. Saying Trump will try to rig the election is fine. What we saw in GA shows how the Republicans will try. Biden shouldn’t have mentioned military action to remove Trump. It does nothing to help him.

Biden is right. This question comes up on Twitter weekly. The second after President Biden is sworn in, Trump will be escorted out of the WH. He has no legal right or ability to stop the election or stop the transfer of power.

Joe Biden has warned that military officers could remove Donald Trump from the White House if he loses the November election but refuses to leave.

Biden aired his views on Wednesday night in an interview with “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah. Asked what might happen if Trump loses the election, but doesn’t vacate the White House, Biden suggested the top-ranking military officers who have spoken out against the president could settle the matter swiftly.

“I promise you, I’m absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch,” he said.

I think it is a mistake for Biden to take the bait on this.

It helps normalize a military intervention into politics. Basically saying that it’s ok to use the military to remove a president if they lost the election. (I think the mechanism wouldn’t be the military in such a case)

Trump will say Joe lost, regardless of truth, and it’s ok to use the military to “protect the winner” and note that Joe agrees… as per this statement.

He should have said something like…
“I trust in our country’s institutions to follow the constitutional order regardless whether the president says or actually believes he won.”

I fear that if the polls continue to be positive for Dems and Joe that he will not mind his message discipline as closely as he should. Especially when the polls seem more about what Republicans are doing wrong more that what dems are foing right.

Remember, All trump has to do to recover in the polls is… say nothing, release a staff approved message or two, as to not be completely off radar.

This is what he did last week or so before the 2016 elections and if he opened his mouth he likely would have lost.

He is the one actively keeping his numbers down by being his loud awful self.
