President Joe Biden on Wednesday night backed the Major League Baseball (MLB) organization potentially moving its All-Star game out of Atlanta, Georgia in protest of the state’s recently passed restrictions on voting.
“I would strongly support them doing that,” Biden said during an interview on ESPN. “People look to them. They’re leaders.”
So does that mean that MLB will sanction teams that don’t wear masks in the dugouts? How about photo ops of team members getting vaccinated? Since the Texas Rangers are allowing folks in to opening day without a mask, what message of leadership is that sending?
Somehow, I don’t think MLB is the leader Biden thinks they are.
Better late than never, but these organizations should have spoken out before this law passed.
Or maybe not, because the clowns who passed it will probably not be in a position to backtrack, and so the consequences will not be prevented. That won’t help them at the next election, even if they did try to skew it in their fsvor.
I got a chuckle last night when Lawrence ventured into the up-close-and-personal narration of Jim Clyburn putting the screws to Biden so as to mention the appointment of an African American woman on the Supreme Court (while he was a candidate).
Clyburn was his next guest.
And Clyburn did NOT have a smug look on his face…it was more like a direct and competent countenance. The look of a man who was interested in getting things done, as opposed to snippets of gossip.
Why is it that Republicans must be forced through economic consequences to do what’s right for this country? The founding principle of preserving a democratic republic is not even on their radar as a priority for their actions.
Dems are doing a good job telling it like it is on these voter suppression bills. They’re keeping things at a high level and are telling folks that the rules are being arbitrarily changed to rig the game in favor of the GOP and against Democrats, particularly black voters.
What would help even more if particular athletes, Black or otherwise, state they have decided to sign with other than Georgia teams over the states voter suppression bill. I mean more Georgians, including Republicans, love the Braves, Falcons and Hawks more than they love Brian Kemp.
Good idea if Biden kept quiet in this. You can bet Georgians aren’t happy with this and Biden narrowly won that state. Jumping on board with this publicly gives the GOP a talking point…the cancel culture thing…they can attache to Biden and the Democrats. Be happy but be quiet.
