President Donald Trump suggested on Thursday that he was intentionally blocking additional funding for the US Postal Service in an effort to disrupt attempts to expand mail-in voting amid the coronavirus pandemic — an effort that the Biden campaign has called a desperate man’s “assault on democracy.”
Dammit, even the Biden campaign is missing the opportunity to point out that a slowdown and reduction in postal services impacts existing vote by mail systems in states like mine in WA, that have done it this way for years!
It’s direct electoral interference in current voting systems, not just something targeted at stopping expansions of the vote in states that otherwise vote in person. Very frustrating that Biden and the media haven’t pushed this point (yet).
True, but a subtle point that probably doesn’t impact the argument that much. The main thing to emphasize is that this is an assault on democracy and will do untold harm as a side effect.
He can issue and Executive Order transferring the money from battleground states to red states. We all now agree that the President has authority to do whatever he wants and no one has standing on suing him.
I’ve now seen multiple reports of sorting machines being removed.
Where are they going? Expensive to move, expensive to store, expensive to re-install. These things aren’t easy to come by, multi-million-dollar contracts delivered over the course of years. Sell them off to a distributor who then sells them to Brazil or whatever and
a) no costs for moving, storage or future re-install
b) no ability for USPS to quickly reconstitute itself even if Trump loses
This takes “time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” to the nth degree because they know this will hurt people and businesses, not to mention cause illness and death for those who don’t get their medications delivered on time.
The Post Office is set up to deliver mail to every address in our Country.
Trump can not allow this.
On election day, and the week leading up to it, every piece of mail had to looked at to make sure that every piece of of political mail was delivered.
In my early years I had to open every sack of mail so the clerks could sort every piece of mail. I still feel the pain but it was the right thing to do.
Good statement by Team Biden. It’s important that Dems take advantage of Trump’s rants to define him and inform the public. Trump/GOP don’t have a lot of leverage here b/c moderate Dems are attacking the administration for messing with people’s prescription drugs and paychecks in order to help Trump cheat to win an election. The UI issue isn’t going away, either. There’s no political price to be paid by Dems for standing firm here.
I think it’s more than a subtle point. The fact that systems like those in WA and elsewhere have worked smoothly for years, is a direct rebuttal to all the fear-mongering about how VBM systems aren’t safe, can be easily hacked, flooded with foreign ballots, and all the other nonsense.
People living in states that haven’t transitioned may not be aware that other states have been doing this safely and effectively for years. It wouldn’t hurt to get that info out there.
Every thing about Trump is desperate. It makes him dangerous of course, but it definitely frames where he is at in his expectations. He is losing any appearance of propriety, stretching the boundaries. While he throws monkey wrenches in our spokes, he is convincing me we are throwing anvils at his.
I like the job Andrew Bates is doing as Biden’s rapid response director. Not much more Democrats can do other than point out these are the acts of a desperate man desperate to escape accountability for his actions, and scared to death of the verdict about to be delivered by the American people.
As many of us knew from day 1, it was a huge mistake to give a scoundrel like Trump the immense powers of the Presidency. Powers he was sure to abuse, especially with the aid of his fellow scoundrels, McConnell and Barr.
