And you also tried to keep your skirts clean, to remain a respected person with a career of some note. You tried to walk a line so fine that pretty much nobody has ever managed to walk it. My recently deceased M-I-L maintained her license and certification to nurse until she was 90 years old. She died at 93. Maternity, and labor and delivery. I’m sure there were plenty of mothers who could have easily bit down hard on her arm going through delivery.

I would add not just “dementia care units” since often they have to be treated for other medical issues (just like any other patient) and have to be cared for by nurses in units that are not specific to dealing with mental crisis patients. Same with criminals, etc.
My better half works on a cardio floor, and when a dementia patient has a heart problem, they have to go to her floor and becomes the potential problem for her and the others in her unit, on top of whatever challenges they present just from the cardio/medical issues.
Same with skinheads, criminals, shitheads, etc. who get sent up from the OR or ICU. Just because they are unpleasant or potentially violent people doesn’t stop their need to be hooked up to telemetry, and treated for their cardio issues.
One of the myriad reasons I could never do the job my better half does.
