Months after he was charged with contempt of Congress for stonewalling the Jan. 6 Select Committee, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon appears to have reversed course by telling the panel that he is “willing” to testify publicly after receiving a letter from former President Trump waiving executive privilege, according to CNN and NBC News.
What the heck with this ‘story’? The headline is a whopper. There is NO executive privilege for Trump to give, thus a letter is meaningless, a fake story of the worst kind. Please stop spreading this BS story.
Why doesn’t this story mention that Bannon IS NOT COVERED BY EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE because (among many other reasons) he wasn’t a White House employee during the time in question.
And even if Executive Privilege applied, IT IS NOT TRUMP’S DECISION TO WAIVE EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE. That decision rests with the current President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
LOL at Trump waiving something that never existed to begin with.
I don’t trust Bannon one bit. He asked for the public hearing because he was gonna perjure himself to the moon and back in order to make a spectacle of it all. The committee sure as hell isn’t falling for that.
That TFG wrote a letter “waiving” his currently non-existent privilege is not BS. That Bannon, who does go on trial in 8 days is getting all squirmy and squishy, is not BS. It is news.
If Bannon can drop 100 pounds, complete an alcoholism treatment program, get a haircut, get those weird things on his face lasered off, and agree to wear one (1) shirt, all by Thursday, then maybe the committee will agree to let him testify in public.
Expect a barrage of lies, oath or no oath. Bannon is counting on Trump (or some wannabe neo-Trumper) regaining the White House and pardoning him for whatever lies he tells under oath, as well as for his participation in the January 6 Putsch. Or else he’s planning to flee into exile with Trump to a place like Hungary or the UAE.
Carole King wrote a song that describes Bannon’s position, except that no one would refer to him as “baby” or “darling.” I just listened to it on vinyl from our local Habitat for Humanity Restore.
