Steve Bannon is a free man today thanks to Donald Trump’s pardon of the far-right power player in the last minutes of his presidency. Others involved in the same scheme as Bannon weren’t so lucky: Two of them pleaded guilty Wednesday to defrauding donors to the $25 million GoFundMe border wall project known as “We Build The Wall.”
So, can our freshly minted convicts Kolfage and Badolato find some way to flip on Bannon for something he wasn’t pardoned for? Most of the pardons dished out in the waning moments of the term were for very specific charges, not blanket pardons. Is there some aspect of the Wall™ grifting that was not charged and thus available for new indicting?
While I’m glad this is happening, the scam was ALWAYS obvious to those who were paying even a modest amount of attention. It’s kind of a wonder (to me) that MAGA groundlings have any cash left at all.
It boggles the mind that people are so stupid they’d donate to something like this. These dupes were supporting Trump…not a wall and doing so after they knew he lied to them about Mexico footing the bill. I can’t muster up any sympathy for them…they really deserved to get fleeced.
The thing I note is that they said every dollar would go to build the wall. If they hadn’t said that, and given themselves million dollar salaries for “management” wouldn’t the whole thing be legal? Or, let’s says they gave themselves $500K each for “management”, put a law firm on retainer for no more than $100K/year ,hired a real estate agent (whose job would be to buy land for the wall at prices that no one would sell for) for $50K/year and an assistant or two, they’d have been perfectly legitimate, even if no wall got built.
I think the government needs to require all “charities” to report their overhead in large print.
Despite the obvious fraud and grift, I was watching a couple of MAGAts on local T&V last night. When asked why they still supported him, even after 1/6, they mentioned the wall. Ukraine. His grate approach on COVID.
Sigh. I did like that social awareness study that strongly suggested FOX/OAN viewers could be cured with one month’s dose of CNN.
