Arizona attorney general Mark Brnovich on Thursday threatened to withhold state funds from Maricopa County after it rejected new subpoenas from the Senate for election materials in the shoddy “audit” of its election results.
I would imagine that Maricopa county provides the state of Arizona with a large percentage of the state’s tax revenues. Why do Republican’s hate the urban areas that fund their salaries?
”Sen. Wendy Rogers (R) suggested imprisoning the Republican-majority board of supervisors in Maricopa County. ‘I would have arrested all of these people already if I had the power to do so. I vote to arrest. Arrest and put them in solitary’.”
“If [Maricopa County] fails to resolve the violation within 30 days, the [attorney general’s office], in accordance with state law, will notify the Arizona Treasurer to withhold state revenue from Maricopa County until MCBOS complies,” a press release from Brnovich’s office said.
AZ AG has delusions of omnipotence. Remember that name, Brnovich, you’ll see it again when he crashes and burns.
I wish I had a lot of money to put up some billboards in Phoenix with the Soviet hammer and sickle nestled within “GOP” to drive the point about how goddamned commie these sonsofbitches are.
So if Maricopa County gives the Senate their routers then what routers will they use while the Senate spends 6 months trying to figure out how to get the info off of the routers that they insist is on the routers. And since the Maricopa County routers are used not just for elections but all county and county sheriff’s business then who will be named responsible to keep residents’ private information private?
And then their the AZ SC, they’re first ruling about handling over info was back in March (?), are we sure that they would trust this group again? And then that leads me to ask if a county within a state is fighting with the state’s legislature, and the state’s SC has been shown to have fucked up a previous ruling then where can the county turn to for redress?
(ya’ll can tell I know barely nothing about state and county governments, and add in less about the law)
This seems to be the new GOP tactic for bulling local governments. Give us total control over everything and do as we say or we withhold you salaries.
Why I think this is a bad bluff is that if you lose Maricopa County badly, which has 61% of AZ’s total population, you lose AZ. Unless Republicans are using this audit as a way of nullifying Maricopa’s votes, these actions just help turn all Arizona from purple to blue.
