Wow, I bet the Stanford University community just loves the Hoover Institute and Scott Atlas in particular. While some Stanford faculty want to distance themselves from the Hoover Institute, they’re stuck with it and all that it represents. Times change. I think the building ought be repurposed (I know, the Institute is quasi-independent, but I dream can’t I) as a location for students to learn how to differentiate BS from facts. With the price of real estate in Palo Alto, I’m sure it can be put to better use than a walled-off location that is currently used for contributing to the decay of Western civilization.

If we were looking at endless social distancing, then I might find some minimal merit to Dr. Atlas’ position. But yesterday’s and last week’s news about the immanent arrival of what seem likely to be safe and highly effective Covid vaccines makes his counsel utterly absurd. Imagine the tragedy if someone you love got sick at the end of November and died in December literally days or a few weeks before they could have had a protective vaccine. Wouldn’t it make more sense to plan a big family get-together for spring, when the vulnerable members at least, if not everyone, will have some protection? It’s the spirit of the event that matters, not the calendar date, isn’t it?

I thought the same. Trump may want to “do a deal” but either way he is out. I wouldn’t want us to trade away state level charges he can’t be pardoned for. He doesn’t own the White House and is not a chip he can bargin with. Let NYS do the dirty work on Trump and his crime family Let a Biden DOJ go after the lower admin flunkies, like PMG Dejoy and company.

He has less than 10 days before the AMA and American Colleges of Radiology and Infectious Diseases condemn him. To put this in perspective consider what you’d think of a Fire Marshall that recommended you keep a gallon of gasoline under the sink in case of a kitchen fire. Atlas is mouthing the medical version of that.
“First do no harm” is the golden rule in medical practice. I can’t see how anyone could interpret Atlas’s recommendation as anything but harmful. I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s noticed NO ONE else in his profession is siding with him. Atlas wished to advance his politics by risking harm to others. I believe the University he’s a Fellow at has already distanced itself from him. I’m sure they boot him in the very near future. For doing harm.
