Assange Lawyer Claims Trump Offered ‘Win-Win’ Deal For A Pardon | Talking Points Memo

LONDON (AP) — A lawyer for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has told a London court that her client was indirectly offered a “win-win” deal by President Donald Trump that would see him avoid extradition to the U.S. if he revealed the source of a leak of documents from the Democratic Party before the 2016 election.

Someone thinks he can buy everything

Rohrabacher was the messenger. So glad to finally see him ousted in 2018.

I can’t see Rohrabacher going rogue here. He was the go-between and if Trump was true to form he didn’t ask Rohrabacher directly. The ask was accomplished either through one of his sons, through Michael Cohen (he was still employed at this time), or one of Trump’s coded (Thanks, Michael) conversations. “It’d be great if Assange would play ball, who knows, we’ll see what happens”

He should not go gently into the good night.

But none of them should. This is basically a statement of the bald faced manipulation of our resources for one man’s gain. Isn’t this considered a crime?

Though, in his defense, perhaps Rohrabacher was offering a pardon from Putin.

And right on cue:

“The president barely knows Dana Rohrabacher other than he’s an ex-congressman. He’s never spoken to him on this subject or almost any subject. It is a complete fabrication and a total lie. This is probably another never-ending hoax and total lie from the DNC.”

Can people stop claiming Julian Assange is some noble journalist that is being unfairly prosecuted? The guy is an egomaniacal fascist according to the people that actually worked with him. He published hacked emails that he knew came from a hostile government that doesn’t tolerate freedom of the Press or minority rights. Assange isn’t a hero, never was, never will be.

Fully agree with you on that.

The QC representing the US government says:

“The position of the government is we don’t contest these things were said. We obviously do not accept the truth of what was said by others.”

Could he be calling Rohrabacher a liar? I sure hope not.

All I can say is that he seems very dodgy and has created a world of hurt. I’m not certain a fair trial is possible, now. To be honest, I’d be happy if he were to stay in jail in Britain. But that’s not an option so perhaps he should be sent back to Australia and let the authorities there deal with him.

Every time I see Rohrabacher’s name pop up, it always seems to be in a situation involving Russia, either directly or indirectly. And, inevitably, it leads me to reminisce about the one time Kevin McCarthy was right about something.

But hasn’t he denied it since?

(This would be consistent with your assessment, of course.)

I wonder what Rohrabacher wants to shut him up. $130K would not come near to it if it were me. A beach house in Santa Barbara and a guaranteed monthly income in the high 5 figures would do it for me. We don’t want to seem greedy.

Pardon me?

They also assured Assange that, were he to take up contracting he could do some work at a trump hotel, and that he would totally get paid, and in a timely manner. Win win.

He largely succeeded so far.

Say what you will about Dana Kremlinstoogebacher, he meets the old Texas definition of an “honest politician” – one who stays bought. (h/t Molly)

““The proposal put forward by Congressman Rohrabacher was that Assange identify the source for the 2016 election publications in return for some kind of pardon, assurance or agreement which would both benefit President Trump politically and prevent U.S. indictment and extradition,””

“Just say it was Seth Rich and you can be a free man…”

Compare Rohrbacher’s and Giuliani’s phone records around the time he visited Assange…
